I wouldn’t recommend you use the 2 transmitters to monitor a buddy’s gas as it will mess with the estimated remaining bottom time calculation, unless you use it in gauge mode — SP doesn’t have a dedicated mode for “buddy gas”
You can alternatively just ignore the RBT number on the screen and depend on preplanned turn pressure

Didn’t mean to sound dismissive/patronizing, I was just pointing out that Lex’s review thread of the G3 I attached is pretty in depth — any specific (non comparative) technical info on usage modes can be found directly in the user manual available online
He’s the only one on SB (that I know of) that has extensive experience with the G3 and was willing to post about it

Features wise, the G3 is a G2 in a new form factor btw, nothing new in there except the watch face
it says in the user manual can use up to 8 transmitters. would ther not be away to seperate them? i know the garmin allows you to name them seperate so i assumed which is a bad word that i could hopefully do the same with the SP

You don’t name them, they’re T1,T2..T8
You attach them to the gases you use (if you are doing a mixed gas dive)
But they’re all your gases — that’s what the computer assumes

If the gas is available then it would be included in your computer dive planning, and if it’s active it will show

The only way to show more than one transmitter at once is sidemount mode, shows 2 (main) gases at once; but it assumes you breathe from both alternatingly
(This is for the G2, not sure about the G3 and if its screen support sidemount mode)
But this will mess with your deco algorithm as well, if you’re “consume” (you and your buddy each on a transmitter) so much gas it might make the wrong assumptions

I don’t know of anyone who’s tried this so, can’t say how the software will behave

ah ok. i was refering to the garmin as to naming them. but went back through lex review and got a few things more but still havent ruled out the garmin mk3i

Btw, the transmitter signal isn’t as strong on ANY brand (besides the Garmin); modulated magnetic induction based radio only goes as far as… your body; you’ll nor get a signal from your buddy unless you hold hands
The Garmin sonar based Tx have a far higher range
For your intended application it makes more sense (sadly the price is steep)

The mk2i offers the same btw, without the backup light and the quick msg features

Honestly if I wasn’t heavily shifting into CCR, I’d go with a garmin, sadly I need a shearwater to monitor the o2 cells
Maybe I’ll get one eventually when I have extra to spare for OC dives

hmmm then the mk2 may be my better choice. but would you do that at 3 times the cost as the G3?

I would get the garmin for myself (and for non diving health tracking features) when I have covered all my CCR needs, and got lotta cash to spare , if my buddy has a garmin transmitter (which costs a lot) all the better that I can read their gas
Your financial planning is up to you tbh..

I already have a G2+2 transmitters (looking for a 3rd for deco tank) and a G2 hud; and the cost is absurd, but pales in comparison to all the CCR stuff 🥲💸

i like the garmin as ive used a fenix 7 for gps and daily for a while. thanks for the discussion as its been helpful
 
Perhaps Scubapro could make an official statement. It seems like the Buhlmann algorithm for the G3, G2 tech, and Luna 2.0 are altered by an adjustment for altitude. I would be glad to be proven wrong.


I already asked this question, and here is Scubapro's response:

"From our R&D department:

The dive computer always uses the upper limit for each altitude class to calculate stops, TAT, and decompression time:

Class 0-1000m -> 1000m
Class 1000-2000m -> 2000m

This applies to both actual dives and the dive planner.
It is the same in all our dive computers."
