I'm a student who dives nitrox and air, and I want to buy the best/most versatile reg available so I dont have to buy another barring an accident. I've heard great things about both these regs, what do you all recommend?

Thanks!

I'd go with the SP. The Apeks is a copy of it. I have many older G250's and also 2 ATX 200's. Both are great regs. SP seems a little better to me.

I have heard nothing but good things about both regs. I personally dive SP G250s and love them. I am very hard on equipment and they take the abuse very well. The are very solid performers and breath consistently at all depths. If you do go with SP, I would recommend either the MK17 or MK25 first stage.

The only down side I can see with the SP is that if you want to service your own regs, it is extremely difficult to get service kits for them.

Ive used a number of different regs, started with an aqualung titan, then moved onto an aqualung legend, after diving with that reg for about 2.5 years i decided to try out an oceanic eos. I bought that reg last may and i decided to replace it with an apeks xtx tungsten, it is the xtx 200 but with a different finish. As of right now i absolutely love the reg, i have a feeling this reg might last me the longest out of any reg, i like it that much.

SB mk20 and G250 combo is a great match!!

I dive the 250V and MK17 and have had it down to 39* water with no freezing issues at all. Best breathing reg I have used to day! The free parts for life is a nice touch as well.

pbc, I don't see how you could go wrong with either choice. Maybe give extra points to what you can get serviced by a reliable/trusted local shop or what your team members are using.

I've been told by people with WAY more experience and background than me that the Apeks second stages are modeled after a Scubapro design, but the Scubapro sealed diaphragm first stages like the MK17 are modeled after an Apeks design.

I have one Apeks DS4 first stage that I have inspected every year for the last 4 years and it hasn't required an overhaul. The DS4 first stage is the most bulleproof that I have ever had the fortune to own and dive as a sealed diaphragm. Combined with a TX,ATX, or XTX 50 first stage and you have a setup that can take you to the limits of diving and last seemingly forever. Local LDS service support means a lot to many people so that may or may not factor into your decision.

On the other end of the spectrum I am really liking the LP special Aqualung Titan LX. I've only owned it for a year but with around 75 dives on it it will probably replace one of my Apeks regs as my warm water travel rig. No-nonsense design with worldwide support and excellent performance for the price. I nabbed mine for $199 on sale and am very satisified with it so far.

I've used exclusively a Mk10/G200(note not the 250--a step down I would guess to the 250) since ~1988-----with absolutely ZERO trouble(approx 900+ dives I would guess on it)........Can't speak for Apex but IMO don't think it would be any better----how could it ...lol
