My LDS is having a closeout and is offering an earlier generation (the one before the current model) G250 at an outrageous price. BRAND NEW.

The unit sells for just $167 (US) and the LDS is willing to have it bench tested before acceptance. I think it's their revenge for having the Scubapro dealership taken away from them.

Anyway, I've heard a lot of good things about this rig. Anyone care to give pros and cons?

I've been diving the tropics since 1978 and have an advanced OW cert. I use an Odin as primary but mainly for DIN valves. I am very attracted to the G250 because of good reviews (i understand the DIR / Halcyon guys swear by them) and also it seems more suited to singles its original yoke valve than the Odin which can be temperamental in shallow water

Very easy-breathing reg, and a great price.

I have one, and the swivel o-ring in the turret failed once, just before a dive. Now I prefer first stages without that feature.

whoaaa Metridium. Interesting post. Very provocative. Your comment brings to mind another thread on the pros and (mostly) cons of swivel 1st stages.

Hmmmm maybe I can ask the LDS to switch 1st stage to MK 16- the balanced diaphragm one w/o swivel.

I have not heard of swivels behaving badly back here but it looks like they do sometimes misbehave. I will keep that in mind as a serious caveat before making a decision.

From what I've read and heard, it's fairly rare. My bad luck, I guess.

Just another datapoint for you.

Yeah, that's about the only reason (that and cost) that made me choose the Mk16... Been happy with the combination so far. Would love the size of the S600, but I'm in no hurry to shell out more dough yet. I need a dry suit first ;)

The G250 is a great reg. It would be one of my top choices if I was in the market for a new reg. My top 3 in order would be:

Atomic B1/T2
Apexs
Scuba Pro MK25/G250

I have several friends that dive them and they are great performers. I've used them several times and really liked them. They are easy to get serviced.

You can't go wrong.

The G250 is a second stage. I've been using my G250 for 16 years with no problems.
DOH! I've been thinking of my SP regs as a single unit for so long, it seems to have ossified in my brain.

:)

Depends on what 1st stage they are selling it with.

I have a G250 and a G250HP and can't tell any difference between them.
