it has a metal buckle - is pretty darn secure. I would advise you watch your fingers when pulling it down for it to "lock" into place, though.

Thought this might be useful to anyone who's convinced they need to swap over to steel cam buckles - I have no idea how much they are if you buy them direct from Scubapro, but here's an alternative brand that makes OEM products for other manufacturers and they have a similar-looking buckle for $28.31 at:

I *assume* they're cheaper than from SP (could be wrong, I'm not in the US).
