is that the entire diaphragm housing has a pin that is a pain to remove. With that pin there, you can't even start to unscrew the cap. Go figure! Something happened (or didn't happen), and I have no reasons to believe it was you! I can see why he would be confused though.

Unlike other SP seconds which secure the cover with a pin, the air2 does not use a pin. That cover take a little less than 2 turns to remove, so I often use the palm of my hand to make sure it is snug. But don't put too much torque on it or it can be a PITA to remove. I usually tighten it with the nail of my index finger in on of the cover slits. Then I can usually remove if the both thumb nails without pain.

why does Peterbuilt offer a tool for it's extraction??? Check out ScubaPro Tools Check out tool #20-136-100...

Figure #3: The long straight end of the allen wrench cross handle is used to adjust the position of the downstream orifice after the unit is completely assembled in the housing. The "L" shaped end of the allen wrench can be used to dislodge the cover pin so that the cover can be unthreaded from the main housing. The allen wrench is retained in the body by a stainless steel set screw.

We are referring to what they call the "cover pin"... it just won't turn without taking that out first. I hope that clears this up!

Neither mine nor my wife's (both third generation) have a pin or a hole for a pin. So I checked the schematics. They do not show a pin in either the 2nd or the 3rd generation models. One last place to check - I got 3rd gen tech service ref & repair guide off ebay. Darn, no pin there either.

Maybe the pin is something new in the 4th gen version - I didn't realize there was a newer version.

Jamiei - If you think 3rd gen guide will help, PM me & I'll make a copy.

Good luck

I bought my Air2's in '95 and my '97 schematics parts list stops at #48. No pins. I saw the pin in the new schematic. It clearly makes good sense.

Jamie - Packet is on the way. I included a '97 schematic of the G500. There are so many changes that it is hardly recognizable when compared with the current schematic.

I'm wussing out and going back to a traditional octo. It's Detroit Diver's fault, he started getting into my head about those Air-2s a few months ago. :D

Actually, I had about 40 flawless dives with my SP Air-2. Never serviced, never even cleaned. Works perfectly. There's just something about the alternate air sourse being on the power inflater that I don't really like.

I heard talk that Apecs was planning to release an integrated octo, and it is supposed to be state of the art.

Apeks already has one. DiveInn sells it.

just saw something that I thought I just had to tell you guys about that hate air2's so much, so I hope you all see this. I'm sure most of you have heard of Hal Watts (Forty Fathom Grotto), guinness record deep air diver. Well, I see from a picture of him during a dive that he has an airII right there on his left shoulder. I put a lot of stock in the choice of someone who has the experience and records to back it up like he does. If they are so bad, I wonder why he uses them? Marketing, right? I know thats what you'll say... But is marketing really worth having an airII freeflow all your air out when you're a couple hundred feet down? Maybe he just takes proper care of it... just something to think about
