Sounds like a great idea!

I am in. I do not care what you call it. I will come.

how about "SnepDiverFest" :thumb: (just Kiddin').

I am open to a winter or summer event as it won't conflict with Vortoberfest or Springfest (although summer would obviously be more popular).

When I said not to conflict with Springfest and Vortoberfest, I mean don't do it the same weekend, or withing a weekend or two. Other than that, I think you can have them in the same season.

Summer, especially in July, can get pricey on condo rentals and campsites are hard to come by. It's also hot to camp in 95f weather. Winter is ok, but Limits people if the temps drop.... I'd say that Spring and Fall and maybe early summer would be your best bets for people. Not to Hot, Not to cold.... just right.... (just my opinion).

If you rotate it around (as suggested with "Jetty Fest"), you could actually done one each season of the year. Or every 4 months, etc. That way we could have 2,3,4 "Jetty Fests" a year.

I like the name Jetty Fest as Mike S suggested because you have close proximity to

Perdido pass
Ft. Pickens
Destin Jetties
Panama City (St Andrews Jetties)

This would also allow us to move the event from Ft. Pickens one year and then St. Andrews Jetties the next or so.

What do you guys/gals think??????

I only suggested this name so we could move it around.

for a couple reasons

1.) Change up the sites. This lets people see a new site that they wouldn't have dove before, etc
2.) Gets different people to different areas
3.) different campgrounds. (All have a nice state park onsite or within 5-10 minutes).
4.) More fun at more places.
5.) Gets more people involved so they want to come back next year.

The only thing I'd suggest is that we don't come up with a bunch of stupid rules that micromanage this event. We decide what we want to do and have fun doing it. The only rule should be "Have Fun" :thumb:

Another nice thing about having an event at Ft. Pickens is that if people do not want to camp out they can get a hotel room on Pensacola Beach that is only 5 to 6 miles (approximately) away.

Every one of the Jetties have Condo's/Hotels within a 5-10 minute drive of the locations. So this could work out great for everyone. Perfect for those who want to camp and perfect for those who don't.

Do you guys/gals think we should get the mods to sticky this thread or just wait until we get things worked out a bit more first??????

If we ever determine a name for it, have a mod edit that into the thread title also at that time.

JettyFest is nice too. In looking at the tides the weekend of January 23rd looks promising as it is a neap tide time with very low tide swings the whole weekend. Which would also make the Massachusetts a possibility. Those of us with boats could anchor them at shore near the campground and do a trip to the Mass too! Here are the tides:

F 22 Low 1:39 AM -0.1 6:45 AM Rise 10:28 AM 34
22 High 2:37 PM 0.6 5:17 PM

Sa 23 Low 2:26 AM -0.2 6:44 AM Set 12:06 AM 44
23 High 3:11 PM 0.7 5:18 PM Rise 11:03 AM

Su 24 Low 3:26 AM -0.4 6:44 AM Set 1:08 AM 54
24 High 4:02 PM 0.9 5:19 PM Rise 11:45 AM

I love to dive in the winter time and this weekend works for me. I would love to not only dive the jetties, but hitting the Mass would be great!!! Maybe we could just get a smaller get together for the winter time and then organize a much bigger summer event with offshore boat trips as well as jetty dives :scubadive: :uwphotographer:.

That sounds like a great idea! June works really good for me but I would be up for about any month.

What does everyone think?????? Do you guys/gals want to put the winter time event on Jan 22-24th and then get a summer event with an Oriskany dive going after that?????

I say let's schedule the winter event...and then do another one in the summer. Winter dives at Destin jetties make the walk so much more bearable. Lets put the date on the calendar and see how many people can make it.
