Scuba tank valve handle color

That is what I was thinking, quick way to id my tanks.

All my high mix tanks have black knobs,,but my low mix (32) has a pink knob & cap.
Wasn't my idea/doing,,,but I kinda like how easy it is. YMMV.

For me I will still analyze the gas before using the tank, it is not about the gas inside, the color knob is about finding my tanks in a group of tanks .

What a bag of mess that would be if the valve handle color was controlled. I never thought of it till now but things like our nitrox bands are a replacement for tank international color markings. OMG ,, black handle with nitrox band on it ,,,,and the filler will not fill your tank until you get a green handle put on and that will require a VIS and cleaning, bla blla bla. We alraeady have fillers that will not fill a tank with a nitrox sticker on it with hyp E air.

I actually once was refused an O2 fill because my handle was black, not green. At the time it was the only dive shop in town with a booster, so I sucked it up and paid them $25 for a freaking green handle.

Most of my favorite tanks now have the "blurple" handles. Why? I'm usually the only one around with blurple handles!

That's up there with the well known tech instructor who was made to demonstrate fin-pivots when visiting Oz in order to get a Nitrox fill...

My singles all have pink valve covers. But mine don’t get mixed up with anyone’s. HP80s are rare birds up here. The only other person I knew with them locally sold her pair to me. Mine stand out nicely amongst the forest of AL80s and other assorted steels.

I dive a lot in SE Asia and we use yellow regs & hoses for high mixes (EAN50 mostly) in stage bottles. Oxygen goes to white bottles with green hoses and regs. Valve handles always black, but your comment makes me think about moving to color.

Using yellow has the added benefit of recycling octopus regs & hoses, often times by buying a full Rec set plus one additional primary stage in order to get 2 stage tank regulators (1st + 2nd). Usually much cheaper than buying them separately. One has to beat the silly pricing practices of manufacturers that pump up their margins on anything labeled Tec or Oxygen Service.
