Scuba tank information

Oops my mistake it’s full of air how can I tell if it’s the bad alloy and there is an A marked on top of the valve itself in a black marker. There is a boot on the bottom of the tank I’ll check and see if there is any more information located there. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question.

An A in marker means nothing except someone wrote an A in marker on it.

If you can get the boot off and it's a steel, check for rust. I doubt there will be any markings under it to make that worth a lot of effort.

Thump it lightly with a wrench. Steels "ping", Al's have more of a flat sound - realize though that this is about as UN-scientific of a test as there is unless you have both next to each other.

Read the linked post, it breaks down how to tell pretty clearly. Obviously if the other poster is right and it's a steel, it's a non-issue. My buddy dives old steels from the 70's and they work just fine.

Also, if you turn it on its side and look at the bottom of the tank. Is it round or flat? I'm pretty certain you will see it is round. If so, it is definitely a steel tank.

I looked over the tank again and found this information stamped on it as well.

So it’s a Faber steel I believe. But the last hydro test was in 89?

Thats the factory hydro, the pic in the first post shows the newer stamps, one looks like a 19+.

You will get the specs but more importantly ask for the REE value so you can get the plus rating at the next equal (aka hydro).

I appreciate you help with this tank and the information you gave me it sure helped me out. I will contact the company as you suggested I will be taking it in for an inspection before using it hopefully my shop can do it or send it out. I’ll check diameter, weight, and height and get back to you with it. Thanks again

Are there any markings at all exept for the stamped ones? Might be just "shadows under paint" on the neck.
