Hello people!
I thought you might want to help me with something.
Ever since my first dive, I have felt that scuba diving is something that would make me very happy and that I wouldn't get sick of. Unfortunately I haven't dived much but now I'm at a point in my life where things are going to change (I am making them change!).
So... until now I have just been thinking about becoming an instructor so that I can dive a lot and make money out of it. But maybe that is not for me, so I'm trying to come up with other things that I could do that has to do with diving that I could make money out of. Like most people I guess, I'm trying to figure out a way to make a living out of something I enjoy doing!
Anyway, what I want from you guys is ideas!!! Come on, brainstorm with me!

You could poach rare fish for the aquarium trade industry.

Hi! I'm in the middle of writing about how it happened for me... you can find it here. It certainly isn't impossible.

Some quick advice:

1. You can get sick of it if you work in the industry. Not every single day of diving is amazing. When you deal with students you deal with potential problems, stress, and even sometimes abuse...

2. If you expect to make money in the diving industry... :rofl3: . I'm not saying is impossible (I make a living from this industry) but as a plain instructor you need to teach different things, speak languages, or have your own dive center...
Although is possible to make a living, the path is long and the investment is high. Getting experience is not easy, and to get a job is not dead easy. Believe me... I Know what I'm talking about.

3. The diving industry is like any other industry, you need to be able to SELL and to proove that you can bring money, customers and generate benefit to your employer (dive center).

4. If you really want to dive for living you need to find a job where the industry depends of scuba diving. So: Utila, Dahab, Koh Tao, Cairns... - in many places you can make a good salary, but you have to travel to 3rd world countries.

5. Before doing your Instructor Course, work for a while as a divemaster. If you don't like the job as a divemaster, may be you shouldn't consider going in the instructor way.

6. Dive... dive ... and keep diving. The more experience the better.

... I work in diving.... I'm an Instructor and I'm lucky to dive everyday and to make a living from this (quite unusual to make a proper living from Diving here in Australia).... so if your dream is to work in the diving industry: go for it.
But before you buy your wings, and try to fly towards your dream, do a bit of rearch about the reality of the industry....

Best of luck ;)
