Oh, I don't think 60 dives would qualify you are an old timer per se, but the 100-199 stated in your profile just to the left of your reply might. :) Has someone been padding their dive number? :D :lotsalove:

Before I jumped someone in public saying they should reread their reply...I would make sure my reply jived with the information to the left of it.

LOL- the joke is on you Bill...you should have read my post to Daniel on Dec 21 when I told him I was 60 years old, his comment about "old timers" came after that.......and NO I did not "pad" my dive number !:lotsalove:

Last year I started getting cold hands on my second dives. Even after 1hr SI. I started wearing 3mil gloves and it greatly enhanced my dive comfort. I never touch anything thats swimming. If I anchor it's for a darn good reason and I look for a spot that isn't alive. Tough in Coz. usually only sand. What does bother me is dragging gear and people that hang on to turtles. I grabbed a womans hand at depth last year as she was holding a turtle, the dm didnt see this infraction, mine or hers. At surface I waited for her retaliation none came, so I talked to her alone. Where she lives everyone does this, it was common for her. I asked her not to do it here. I asked her to talk to the dive masters to get their take as they always state not to touch anything in pre-dive planning. I did dive with her again and she made an effort to tell me that she would never do that again. Not that I needed to hear it but if we do tell people in an effective way to do the right thing usually it works. Private conversations tend not to embarrass.

This post has turned into quite a discussion about hoods. I was just wondering if using your hood to hold onto sponges for a photo could damage the sponge? I'm not a photographer, so would have no reason to use a hood for this purpose. Also,it wouldn't be realistic for me to fill a hood with rocks/sand for weight(?) purposes.I'd forget it was there and have it in my eyes/mouth when I took the hood off.
Daniel-I'm 60 years old and...

...apparently don't know the real uses of a hood. Just the other day, I used mine to trap a 9 foot moray eel that had the audacity to ask me why I was wearing gloves. I scooped it up with my hood, held its mouth closed with my gloved hands, and gave it a real beating. Impudent beast! I shoved it back into its hole and using my hood as a sail in the current, drifted off to see what else I could find.

Last year, I used my hood to clean the teeth of a great white that swam near me. It must have mistaken me for a cleaner wrasse. I whipped off my hood and polished its teeth while it waited. Darn lucky that I had that hood. I am sure that other divers will testify to the utility of a hood that have bugger all to do with warming their noggin. :kiss2:

What a riot !! You are tooooo funny ! Ya have to feel sorry for the darn eel !!!! :D Just wondering if you used the same hood for the eel beating and the teeth polishing, because I am in the market for a good versatile,multi-purpose hood. The one the previous poster mentioned that you can fill with sand for weight(?) purposes or hook a miner's light to the top didn't catch my eye, but yours is VERY, VERY intriguing.

Ahem. The "previous poster" was moi. Yes. I am Hoodman. Terror of the seas. To wit, the hood used to deplaque the white predator was the same used used to scoop sand as ballast. The very same one indeed. Stay tuned for more stories from the 'hood.

HAHAHA!!!:rofl3::rofl3:

Well, I tend to use my hood for doing good (not that flossing a shark's teeth isn't good...). On my last trip, I rescued some baby turtles that had drifted into the path of a nurse shark by placing them in the cap and carefully and lovingly moving them to safer ground.

Although I will admit to also using it as a lift bag to send up the gold coins I discovered on that old wreck.:popcorn:

P.S. I do wish to thank Tridacna for reminding me of all the various uses of a hood. It's just such second nature to improvise that they had escaped me. Although it is somewhat of a struggle to remove my hood since it's attached to the vest I wear under my wetsuit. (Good thing it's a Henderson Hyperstretch.) Something for folks to think about when contemplating purchase of multi-purpose hoods.

I need to get a hood !!! I've never worn one because I stupidly thought they were used only for warmth. I know I'm not lucky enough to find coins in a wreck let alone need a hood to haul them up,and I don't think I'm corageous enough yet to use it like Tridacna.....but the thought of using it to move baby turtles in harms way like MMM, warms my heart. I will search the Diver Supply Ads for a good deal on hoods while I anxiously await Episode 2 from The Hoodman!!

Wow, I had no idea a hood was so versatile. Please, tell a lowly hoodless wonder where one might find one of these swiss army hoods, with which I can save baby turtles and sharks from gingervitis, collect gold coins and bring up ancient sand from the ocean floor...where does one find such an innovative creation?

Looks like any of those five(or combination of those five) might work...but I'm curious about where that arrow is pointing in the fourth pic??? I'd be concerned that might lead to problems. I wonder if we can solicite a few comments from the expert...The Hoodman ????
All of those hoods are a riot !!:D Where do you shop,Bill????
