how are you guys affixing the bolt snaps to your scooter tow cords? do you just run the cord through the clip? run it through and loop it? or some kind of fixed attachment (casey mckinlay ties his to the cord with cave line)

what are the pros and cons of these? it kinda confuses me

I just loop mine thru itself. I'm a rookie at scootering but that's the method taught to me in a TDI DPV class. It's worked well so far.

Most people I dive with have a single snap on the cord and hitch it on (like Docc), but in open water having that hanging down probably isn't a huge deal. I can see why Casey would tie his on for tight overheads.

I use a cord that has a bolt snap on each end, and I clip it in. Sometimes I'll take it off while I'm scootering.

a fixed clip seems to be team standard for those guys. I'm just trying to get a feel for why. I've only dived with the cord through the snap so it can slide freely on the cord

I was assuming the OP was asking about the tow cord, not the bolt snap on the nose.

In any case, I leave the bolt snap on my tow cord to run free. The one on the nose is attached via a hitch.

Oh I see. Sorry, it was early. Yah. I just run the cord through the eye. Not sure I see what the benefit would be of tying the snap to the cord, other than maybe it stays in one spot (which could be accomplished by putting knots on either side of it).

Its popular with the cave divers diving the big harley scooters, e.g. 26Ah & standard Gavins. The fixed towcord (in my limited experience with them) allows for a more relaxed grip on the handle and a more consistent straight line pull. I suspect (but not sure about this) that its also preferred due to the unbalanced drag of multiple bottles.

I asked over on GUE forums just for giggles.

We call them the Galaxy 500 scooters.

My Gavin came with the fixed bolt snap, but my X-Scooter free floats.
