Scalloping questions?

I've never seen sea scallops on a shore dive, but I only know of one site where the proper depths can be reached from shore, and the bottom substrate there is all wrong.

I know of two places where sea scallops can be found from shore but the swim back in with full bags isn't really worth it.


I created a Scallop Primer a couple of years and two computers ago. I will try to dig it up and post it.

Generally, it is no problem bagging the limit. This usually produces 7 to 10 lbs of meat. Most of our beds are in the 35 to 45 FSW range. We also have a few that are in the 70 to 80 FSW range. The scallops are caught by drift diving. The current is moving over the beds. Very little effort is needed to cover a hugh area. Once the bag gets filled it can be used as a brake to stop in a productive area.

Capt. Jim actually bagged his limit in six minutes last spring.
