Thanks for the info -

We decided on the doubles. It's cost us, but oh well.

(2) OMS 45lb wing
(2) Worthington HP80
(2) Worthington HP100
(2) OMS 300 Bar Rotating Crossbar Manifolds
(2) Pair OMS Tank Bands
(2) Genesis GS2000 setups with 7' hose and DIN conversion kit

Probably more air than we need for rec, but the setup will not outgrow us for a while.

We expect to have it all in a couple weeks, and will be practicing with Matt Silvia, who has been a big help with our new gear in the past (backplates, drysuits).

We are looking forward to doing some more wreck dives this summer. We have the boat and location, so why not?

Thanks again.

Man, if you want to dive the Pinthis, I'm in! That's a great wreck, and last time I was there the vis was fantastic.

We are in on that when we get setup! It's about 6 miles outside Scituate harbor by the looks of things. Very reachable in our boat. On a nice day we could even leave from Sesuit Harbor on the Cape which makes it about an hour run out. Save that for summer though. In Spring, we can trailer to Scituate.

Not supposed to be great weather this weekend on the water ...

Jeff,
That's not really more gas than you would expect to use on a rec dive. Keep in mind you will be on a boat doing two dives from one set of doubles.

Right, I forget about that. I'm hoping for the most part that it will provide enough gas for a couple dives with reserve.

2 80s is 2 80s. The only difference between doing two dives on a two single 80s and two dives on double 80s is that you don't have to worry about your rock bottom on the first dive...you only have to consider your reserve once. So, if your rock bottom on the Poling is 1000 psi in an 80, it'll be 500 psi out of the double 80s, but you only have to subtract that from your usable gas volume once.

You don't HAVE TO worry about it, but you should bear in mind that if you don't, you may find you're a little short on gas for dive #2. I got a little carried away on a scallop dive once, and while I did surface within NDL as planned, I wasn't paying as much attention to my gas as I probably should have. There wasn't any danger of running out, so I kept filling my bag. I got a good haul on that dive... no regrets, but I would only have had enough gas left for about 10 minutes of bottom time before rock bottom on dive 2, if I had opted to dive again that day, which I would have if I had reserved more gas.

Pinthis is a great dive w/ nice viz. I'd love to do it again this season. The dive last year just made me want to dive it again. In two dives I never made it to the bow, so I've got that to do next time. I've got 31EAN in my two 100s now just waiting.....

Was the vis on the Pinthis like this?

On that day we had close to 30 feet of vis. Those were shot with ambient light only. About 10 years ago we dived her once and we could look up from the bottom and see the water's surface. Incredible! Of course there have also been times when you had to feel you way around. But, over all, it typically is a pretty dive with good vis. Get out there and enjoy the wreck while she's still in decent shape. I'm afraid that in a year or so she may flatten out considerably as she collapses. In the book New England Legacy of Shipwrecks by Henry Keatts, there is a picture on page 101 of Brian Carter kneeling on the hull, over the shaft, with the keel over his right shoulder. Today that keel lies in the sand (first picture). When I first started diving her with my friends, we had to crawl under the bulwark to get inside the hull. Today she is wide open. Just be careful, as some of the many pieces of structure are in danger of collapsing.

It was comparable... possibly a bit better. I had estimated vis at 40', and was shooting some video with ambient light. I recall there being enough sunlight streaming down that it was too bright for my camera's initial settings.
