As we all know are perhaps many maybe worried ......

Does it occur to anyone about the transfer of viruses like SARS? common influenza? diseases like mouth sore, herpis? .....etc

through equipments borrowed, rented or purchased 2nd hand?

What is your oponion let's discuss

I was told some diseases do stay and survive for hours include sea-water. Perhaps some diving doctors here can advice.:)

Seeing as you are in Singapore, I can appreciate that this is a topic of much interest to folks in your region.

While the mode(s) of transmission of SARS is still under investigation, the fact that this virus can survive at least 2-3 hours in the environment suggests that contact with a contaminated item could theoretically result in infection.

For divers who are concerned, they can disinfect gear before use with such products as SaniZide Plus (Safetec; 1-800-456-7077),
Advance TBE (Infection Control Technology; 1-800-551-0735) &
Confidence Plus (Mine Safety Appliances Company; 1-800-MSA-2222). It's a good idea to do this periodically in any event.

For whatever comfort it may offer, right now it appears that SARS transmission is primarily through close person-to-person contact through exposure to droplets such as those broadcast by a sneeze or speaking.

Best regards.
