Why is everybody so annoyed at the idea of a computer simulator?

All dive computers do the same thing but display it in a different way. Unless this constantly spammed software simulates all the common types of REAL computers its useless. A user needs to know how to see their *specific* computer and nothing more. Reading the manual and just going diving takes care of it!

Sorry, I'm a simpleton scientist/clinician. If you do not exceed NDL you may ascend to the surface at an appropriate rate without stopping and have a neglible rate of DCI. The safety stop is just that, an attempt to slow the ascent rate of the recreational diver and a chance to blow off a little extra nitrogen prior to surfacing, thus hedging one's bet for DCI.

If one exceeds NDL, additional stops are needed to eliminate nitrogen to lower the risk of DCI to rates comparable to a no-deco dive. Additional time spent in excess of the deco stops would be the equivalent of a safety stop, increasing the safety margin to some degree.

This is not rocket science and dive computers are not difficult to operate. I also recomment Deco for Divers, a very interesting and informative book. I think all divers out of OW training should understand these principles

Good and safe diving, Craig

Here is a "Rule" I use about "Safety stops" I stay at 15' ft until I lose two bars of nitrogen on my computer, that is around three minutes, funny how that works;) If my dive profile has me at 30ft or less for 15 to 20 minutes I use the 30' per minute rule and don't worry about the stop as I have already dropped my two bars from my deepest point of my dive. As an open water diver you should know the difference and not be involved in "Deco" diving in anyway, stay safe;)

I don't have a problem with computer use or paid instruction to help people with them, I do have problem with someone coming here in this particuliar place and actively discouraging new divers or those considering from posting here. "Are you even certified?" um no, is why they are here... really

This is something that was never made explicitly clear to me during my OW training and I had to figure out on my own at a later date (merely that I was told that I should, not why I should).
