I just finished reading through the thread about the poor diver who passed away earlier this year during a dive from Ambergris Caye. That got me wondering if there are any dive shops on the island that are known for taking extra safety precautions — testing air more often, AED onboard, trained rescue divers, etc. I'm a vacation diver with only a dozen dives under my belt.

@DandyDon will back me up here.

Get your own CO testing device and use it.

Then you won’t have to worry about that aspect of safety. Amigos Del Mar had a spotty record in the past - don’t know about now.

+1. I've only read part of the long, long thread about the recent fatality. Was this determined to be from carbon monoxide? Even if so, the OP's question is a great one, even if you carry a CO detector. The dive op involved in the fatality appeared to be poorly-equipped to handle any emergency that might have occurred, whether associated with CO or not.
