Hello,
I would like to know what improves sac ratings? I work in a dust factory lmfao, Im sucking back alot of dust when im not wearing my mask. Is this going to put a huge toll on my diving? I would l ike to go tec and i need a good breathing rate.
Chris

As you gain experience and relax it will get better.

it can.. things that affect sac are
smokeing
fitness
stress
lung condtion (asma ect)
heavy breathing

your sac rate should go down with time

Play around with different types of masks till you find something comfortable. If it's just normal dust the mask doesn't have to be anything special. Better than damaging your lungs over time.

Awesome, Thanks guys. Damn work sucks, I never wear my mask. Its way to hot.

Wear your mask.... It's there for a reason

Protect your health--it's your primary piece of dive equipment that you have control over.
Dive and gain experience--this will help you with your sac, buoyancy and make you a better diver.

First, like everyone said, wear your mask. Not only are you affecting your SAC rate, but you are affecting your health. I'm not sure what a dust factory is, but any kind of intrusion into your lungs is going to effect their elasticity. You'll end up with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This is what smokers get.

Once you start wearing your mask, then just get out there and dive. Experience in the water is the main thing that will help you improve your SAC. Besides that, make sure you're streamlined, neutrally buoyant, and moving slowly.

Dito on the mask, first thngs forst.

As far as diving goes first of all dive as much as you can. Being at ease comes with experience and that will lessen your consumption. When you can't put a scuba dive together go for a skin dive. That will put you into a mode of sustained oral deep breathing and grow your face in water comfort. Also since you are apt to be moving around more than on a scuba dive it's great overall exercise.

My SAC rate improved greatly when I ditched my AL80 and got a lp77 steel tank and I was able to lose 8 pounds of extra weight with my 7mm semi-dry. Plus I just did more diving. I think that is really the key. But moving less weight has to help.
