AS usual, THE MAN attempts to have the upper hand. So Im done with this Blogging, a simple question has now become ENGLISH 101, Walter Im sorry that I offended you with the improper verbage in my original Blog. I forgot, especially since I dont EVEN know U, how PERFECT YOU MUST BE. I poseda simple question, robbery/ burgarly and I get slammed. So if u dont like my use of the English Language, quit blooging on my Blog, I would be 100% happy to be seen with myself. As for spending My hard earned American dollars on and in Bonaire I will continue inspite of the incident, can I use this word or is it incorrect?, : 10/07 someone incidenttly came into the house that we rented in Bonaire and rempved our personal items for their benefit. I have changed the context of my wording of the incident to please some PERFECT MAN ,UGGHH, named Walter.
It has been a pretty silly hijack, but that often happens when you discuss Bonaire thefts. The Grammar less was really silly tho, especially for a sport culture that includes so much international travel and variations of English usage and translations!

THe original question was has or was or is there anything being done about INCIDENTS happening on Bonaire. but it seems all the MEN answering the question must have the supremest BUMS leaving the last word adn correcting an innocently enough posed question. Walter
get a life adn a drinK!!!!!
Hey, I'm a man. I just confirmed that. :cool2:

Now that I think about it, some divers here don't travel much.
JI,m sure there is crime, small island where everyone helps each other and the bad ones stick out.
I bet the bad ones are well known with others covering for them because of mutual family/friends. Can't prove it. The cops don't do much nor release much info and some forums don't even allow discussion without faxed paperwork. But this goes on and on.
I haven't read the entire thread.... but Bonaire is not a big place.

The population of the entire island is not any larger than a "small town" in the US.

If the police on Bonaire really wanted to stop this petty theft/robbery/burglary (or what ever you want to call it), then they could.

This has been going on for years. I'm sure the police are paid off, or someone is. Otherwise they would put a stop to this.

If I go to Bonaire, I tell you I'm afraid to bring any camera equipment or my laptop because I'm afraid it will be stolen out of my room while I am there.... :shakehead:
Exactly. I got to make sure the room safe is large enough for all that, but then we have reports of dive gear stolen too.

And pickups in the hotel parking lots. Naked man chasing. :rofl3:

But there'll be others who will now post about how it's not that bad, easy to prevent (they haven't been hit yet), and crime is everywhere. They tried to tell me it must be as bad in Cozumel. Nope, never hear of any really.

It is not a matter of police corruption. Bonaire is not like Mexico where a honest cop would be in abject proverty if they tried to live off the salary. From the little that I know, the more basic problem lies in Dutch law and the way it treats petty theft. Very high standards of proof and lax sentences. When you combine that with the fact that a lot of the locals are related, not much push to address the problem. Now, when you had the rape/murder of a woman, then the police swung into action and made an arrest pretty quickly.

So the bottom line would be to use common sense, tried that didnt work, "badending to an otherwise good vaction" thread in the beffining of this blog, the safe was drilled out of the wall. hmmmm. stay at a resort not aproblem.

Police arent stopping the crime, others dont want to talk about, locals (thieves, police, comon folk wrking and living on Bonaire, both native and immigrants) know who and proably when, the thefts are going to occur, then next question who buys the stolen stuff? Took the village to raise the theft but then what happens?
Been to other diving spots in the world, and never heard of such rampant problems with burglarly/robbery/stealing as one hears of in Bonaire ..lack of respect for ur fellow man kind? one can state many problems as they see the problem thru the eyes of the viewer but the bottom line is it may take more than common sense to keep stuff from being stolen

Well, I wont be going to Bonaire anytime soon! They aint getting money or my goods!

Tell me you are refering to another rape/murder, not the Natalie Holloway case, which is the textbook example of incompetent police and prosicutorial misconduct

It was another murder. Holloway went missing on Aruba.

Bottom line is that no one on Bonaire give a flying **** if you are robbed. From the local's point of view, the reefs are great, the police will not stop us, so we can steal from you as much as we want. As tourists, and there is not any reason to go to Bonaire other than diving, the situation will continue till we stop going there.

Scubaboard has open and honest discussions regarding petty theft on Bonaire while Bonairetalk is about to achieve the impossible by sticking their collective heads so far up their **s that they can see sunlight through their mouths.
