safetyfirst:
The Marine Park Office also sells Environmentally friendly sun screen and bug repellant.

Isn't that called Port Royal or Salva Vida?

Bay Island Diver:
The most relevant feedback I have on this operation is that they are currently the ONLY dive operation in the Marine Park Area who refuse to co-operate and enforce the $10/ year marine park fee.

Apparently, not correct- or their website disagrees, anyway....from their website:

Diving Luna Beach
Luna Beach offers two boats for your diving and sunning pleasure. Our larger, custom-built, dive boat has a Cummings diesel engine and is 47 feet long and extra wide at 12 feet. We also have a smaller boat for diving. Boat usage will be based on the number of divers in the dive party.

The boat comes fully equipped:

Twin ladders for easy climbing
Comfortable tank racks to secure your tank
Camera table (no need to throw your valuable camera under a bench!)
Fresh water rinse tank
Bottled water is available

Our Dive Shop

Luna Beach Resort offers a full service dive shop. With over 40 different dive sites only 2-20 minutes away by boat, you¹ll enjoy world class diving at its best! And, since visibility ranges from 75-150 feet, you¹ll see a huge variety of fish, sea life & coral in these protected waters. Whether you want to get PADI, (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) or SSI (Scuba Schools International) certified, at this time we are just accepting SSI Universal Referrals, please check with us for SSI instructor availability, we have the courses that will meet your needs. Now you can choose your certification affiliation. Want to get certified?

The dive shop is located in the main area of the resort, and is also a short walk from the dock/boat. We have Dive Instructors, Divemasters, and dedicated boat captains on staff to help you. We offer nitrox for those who are certified for its use. Not certified for nitrox? We offer training and certification!

Our Dive Shop also services and maintains our own and other equipment. In-store service guaranties quality rental and instructional equipment. All of our equipment is Sherwood, Genesis, and Akona.

When you return from diving we offer you fresh water showers and fresh water rinse tanks for your dive gear. We also provide lockers and locks for your dive gear at the dive shop.

Sandy Bay West End Marine Park
The diving community on Roatan has taken a strong position when it comes to protecting the island’s natural resources. Luna Beach Resort is a contributing member of the Sandy Bay-West End Marine Park and we are actively involved in the conservation of Roatan’s marine life.

Antoine Pomerleau is the park's manager - he can be reached at 349-4138 or by email at roatanmarinepark@yahoo.com. The park also has a website of it's own: http://www.roatanmarinepark.com - drop by and see what they're working on right now!

Effective November 14, 2005, dive shops operating within the Sandy Bay West End Marine Park will implement a US$5.00 user’s fee for every diver. In appreciation for your contribution, each diver will receive a dive tag that will grant them diving access within the marine park for that calendar year.

Doc,

You are pasting text that could be several years old "Effective November 14... will implement". Will is there in person. I'd go with the voice of a local over text from a website that has not been updated in at least one year (the tags have changed, no longer tags but bracelets). Luna Beach could be pulling support without updating their website.

How about going with verifiable truth? Will- have them answer the threads... you're on scene. (Back from snowboarding, right?)

On another similar thread that just erupted http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=176892 also condmened another resort for non-compliance... apparently that was not true.

All political hoo-haa.

Here's my take on the "Marine Park": http://www.scubaboard.com/showpost.php?p=2656264&postcount=10

I read your reply on the other thread. Did we not get our coffee this morning?

The Marine Park is what it is. This isn't the US, and anyone who expects things to be sane and organized is asking too much. :)

Yes, I got me coffee, it's the doughnut I didn't grab. :light:

I may not be on location in Roatan, but it seems I was motivated enough and able to get a statement from the resort in question.

The truth will set you free.... :pcangry:

WOW that is very interesting – we can prove we always collect the fees and pay the committee directly. BELIEVE ME – we do everything to the book – how dare anyone excuse of cheating – that is the furthest from the truth, but there are always someone who wants to make themselves look better or such.

THANK YOU for the heads up!

Best regards,

Debbie

Doc,

Well there you have it. This will surely make the person who posted earlier about going to Luna Beach feel much better. Now I'm going to drink my coffee... :coffee:
