The problem with individual tipping is there are a lot of "Behind the scene" people who help make your trip and stay what it is! The boat mechanic, the Gardner, Chief, The guy filling the Tanks in the back room. That is why I like the common break between housekeeping and dive operation through the front desk where all can share and you continue to get good service and keep you coming back! A good dive operation, like the resort is more than the guy you see our meet on the boat! From what I have seen here I now understand why I get good service and smile when I am in Roatan! The Staff and DMs for the last Ten years have gone the extra mile for us! They know I like Sea Horses so I get these pointed out all the time:

As far as your bags, the operation we use handles them from the time they come off the conveyor until the are dropped at your room! So talk to your resort and see if you can avoid that kind of scene, it reflect more on us than them, regardless of fault! :depressed:

We had the same experience. Guys will hang around the baggage claim area and grab your bags. They know which ones to grab because they have the resorts tag on them.

The first time through we thought the guy was from the resort. He took our bags to the bus area and demanded a tip, which we reluctantly gave him.

We wised up on the return trip and made sure no one touched our bags; even when the guy got pretty insistent.

We are going to Roatan in a few days and I am not sure how much to budget for tipping the divemaster and crew. We are doing 3 dives a day for six days. Anyone have any advice? Thanks

$5 a dive will be perfect........

I guess I am of a slightly different thought on this my tips start at $0 and go to about $5 a trip/tank. I just got back from Roatan and the effort given to service was great with respect to dive gear however almost every time our regs where on with the Octo to the left and gauges to the right so I double checked everything every time. I would rather have them move the tanks weights etc... and I'll take care of my reg etc. That said the other services where great and I did tip well.
