I just returned from Roatan. I was there during the road blocks. They were more of an inconvenience than a problem. The President of Honduras flew to Roatan and supposed resolved the issues. I felt safe and never threatened. Beautiful place, even with the storminess and the road blocks. I'll be returning in the near future.

The sad part of the road blocks is the effect this has on the local economy. We watched two cruse ships pull in and turn around and head back out to sea. In the long run, the only ones that will suffer from the road blocks are the local people who depend upon the tourist dollars.

I wouldn't stay away.

We have just gotten back from Roatan. The protest was over when we left on Sat Nov 8. The resort, Fantasy Island, took great care of us. We took a tour Friday pm and everything was back to normal. The local people were relieved that the conflict was over.

Just returned from Roatan. Was there during the so called road blocks. It was more of an annoyance than a problem. Always felt safe.

Disregard my previous post quoted below. Almost all of the "information" on the other board was deleted by the administrator, so I wouldn't trust anything that was said there. Probably a troll causing mischief.

I recommend anyone considering visiting Roatan go to boards.cruisecritic.com and find thread 860099. Unfortunately, I don't have enough postings on scubaboard to give the URL (I used to, but they got wiped out by a computer crash :ermm:). Perhaps somebody else can post it. Anyway, there seems to be some dispute as to whether there is actual bloodshed on Roatan, but in any case it sounds very serious. I just canceled my plans to do DM training there in December.

I've been to Roatan many times and am very fond of everyone I've met there (especially the staff of Coconut Tree). I really pray that things will return to normal there.

I too was on Roatan during the protests. The biggest thing I noticed was the internet being out. A very little inconvenience. I never felt threatened at all. I stayed in West End, dived with Coconut Tree, had a great time and took 1000 underwater pictures.

I'm a newbie to this site and wouldn't even dream of throwing out statements like that.:shakehead:

I've had many a PM and land line conversation with RoatanMan. I'm here to tell you that the previous poster's statements are nothing short of fiction. I have no idea where the poster was going with the tactical statement. I chalk it up to not knowing the meaning, significance, or importance of tactical training.

RoatanMan provided my wife and I with valuable and accurate information for our trip to Roatan last September. Sure, some of the information may have been gained from the internet (speculation on my part), however he's spent enough time in roatan to qualify his "opinions".

I trust his "opinion". I don't believe that he would ever knowingly misguide anyone.

I think Roatan Man has had many excellent comments throughout his hundreds of posts. I don't agree with all of them and I'm sure he doesn't agree with all of mine. Anyone reading this board or any travel web sites should always consider all opinions and you'll probably find the truth somewhere in between all of them. My orginal post in this forum was just to provide information that the state department provided to me.

If I had a single comment to make about Roatan Man it would be "TRY SOME OTHER ISLAND AND RESORTS". Roatan is great but it's no way the greatest. There is definately more to Roatan than CCV.

I've not stayed at CCV but I have been there several times. I hired one of their DM's and they hired one of my boat captains (paid twice what I could offer). It's a fine place but it's not the only place on the island. Not all divers would like it but not all divers would like all of the other places either. Let's try to state the facts as best we can and give our opinions and limit them to first hand experiences. I've said a dozens times that there are many good places on Roatan and I personally believe divers should try more than one of them. You just might find one your really like just as Roatan Man has found CCV though I'm not really sure he has given others much of a chance by actually staying there and diving with them.

What people are failing to understand is that RoatanMan has a deep passion for Roatan, which in part explains the reason why he responds the way he does. Does this make his opinions any less valid? I don't think so.

If you don't appreciate RoatanMan's posts, be an adult about it and either take your comments to PM or use your ignore function. It appears that your only purpose here is to create disruption.

In addition, I would like you to demonstrate proof that RoatanMan has nothing to do with TEMS training.

The issue is that some people express their opinions in a way that acknowledges it's their opinion and that other people may have other opinions. And other people, not so much.
