I have always wanted to take the family to CocoView for a week. Seems to be fairly expensive after you factor in the 20% tax. Are there ever any great deals to be had there? Price just seems to be going up.

CocoView doesn't discount, it doesn't have to.

Famlies at CCV would be attracted to their offerings of their Playa Miguel Beach Houses. If you occupy a beach house with your family, you can save a lot on the room portion. They are a short walk down the beach and you can access the diving and meal package...you'll still be on the same small private island, the extra 200' away from the dive op is not going to be an issue.

This is surely one of those many things in life that you get what you pay for...if it's what you wanted! If you want to maximize your dive experience and bottom time, the only thing better for that is a liveaboard trip. If you don't want to dive a lot, there are cheaper ways to do things.

When you consider options, pricing and choices, Much like skiing, you can select lodging "on the mountain", with "ski in/ski out" availability. This is different than taking a bus from a condo n town in your ski boots to get to the mountain. CocoView is "dive in/dive out".

If your kids either don't dive or are too young to dive, Coco View is not the place for you!
If everyone dives - it's awesome.

I believe CoCo View had a minimum age for guests at 10 years old when I last visited with my family. It is a great place for the 100% diving family, but there is not much else to do if someone isn't a diver.
CCV is more akin to Scuba Camp than a luxury dive resort (it ain't that). Playa Miguel is a viable option, and bicycles are available (for free if memory serves) to make those few hundred feet of extra distance to the dining hall, that much less of a hassle.
My family had a great time there, as we all dive. My teenage kids also found other teenagers to hang with when not diving during our stay, but who knows who you might have when you go.

We are actually a pretty hard charging dive family so no frills is perfect for us. Just made a reservation for Coco View for December of 2017. I have a few dive trips planned before that so I had to push it out that far. Excited to see the Prince Albert and front porch. Had a trip booked there 2 years ago and our dive buddies flaked out on us at the last minute and cost us our child care. Now that my son is older and certified that issue is resolved.

My daughter and I have been to Coco View three times.
It's her favorite vacation destination on the planet.

At least until she can afford to go with me to the Atlantis resorts in the Philippines.
Then her opinion may change!

How is that Cocoview front porch? Is it really great dving 24/7 with incredible easy access? Is there enough at the front porch to hold your interest for a week when not boat diving?

I really like it. It's easy to dive as much as you can stand. I'm not that much of a hard core dive till you drop kinda guy but there were those that got in 6 or more dives a day when I was there in August. When the water gets rough, it was nice to just suit up and just do the shore dive. In fact the last few days I was there in August I was nursing an ear infection and I just dove the front yard and didn't go below 15-25 feet. Long dive times and lots to see. I probably enjoyed those dives as much as any of the others I went on.

You talked about the expense in your initial post, from my experience of numbers of dives per dollar, it's really reasonably priced, especially seeing everything is included. Both Bonaire and CoCoview can let you maximize your dives per dollar. There are probably others but of the ones I've been to, those will maximize the dives on your vacation dollar.

In my opinion, the only time it tends to get expensive is when you factor in the Tips. The recommended tipping schedule gets expensive really fast. So just keep that in mind when you go. Most of the group I was with tipped the staff somewhat less than the "recommended amount" but took care of the DM and Captain pretty well.

I definitely got my dives per dollar worth in Bonaire. Makes sense that Coco View would be the same with the shore diving so convenient.

The "front porch" has many dives.

The Prince Albert.
The airplane wreck
The shallows to the left - coral heads and lots of critters (love this poke around dive)
The shallows to the right - the river inlet with brackish waters (have not dove there myself)
The left wall deep
The left wall shallow
The right wall deep
The right wall shallow.
The sand flats between the walls and trailing away from the Prince Albert - but this can get really deep pretty quickly

Then you can do them all again as night dives!
