How is that Cocoview front porch? Is it really great dving 24/7 with incredible easy access? Is there enough at the front porch to hold your interest for a week when not boat diving?

Like DD, my daughter loves CCV. We've been there in each of the past 4 years together....~100 dives in total for me at CCV.

Yes - there is definitely plenty to hold your interest, particularly if you like macro and slowing down to see things in the shallows. My daughter tried her first night dive at CCV....and we saw 2 octopus in about 10 feet of water within the first 5 minutes......now she is the one wanting to go night diving every night and do at least one pre-dawn morning dive at 5 AM during the week :-). There aren't many things that make a teenage girl want to get up at 4:30 AM....;-)

But whether you like shallows, wrecks or deep walls....all are accessible via the front yard shore dive. All are different at different times of day and constantly changing from day to day. The same walls are different at different depths. I never feel bored there.

I try to never anthropomorphize children. Of the three that I have ever seen at CCV, one was a non-issue, one I wished to feed to the sand flies, this other young fellow was quite the dive buddy:

Serious divers of all ages are welcome.

My 11 year old definitely seems like he's going to be a serious diver. He turned out 30 dives in a week with us in Bonaire. What is the weather and water temp like in late December through early Jan. I have been going through the posts and don't see much for the latter part of the year except some say to avoid October.

Not the best time of the year by any means, but if that's your time slot, Roatan is the place, the South side of island wins, CoCoView is the favorite by synchronicity of location.

Here's the Doc explaining why:

It can be rainy and blustery, but that effects the North side to a much greater extent, causing the few operations that can to scamper over to the South.

I see the water temp as a constant 82-84° except in those months, where I read it more often as 80°. It of course, depends (a very tiny bit) on where you do your sampling, but those are from a general 6fsw depth. Many divers report lower temps but I believe they might be "confusing" their sampling methodology with effects of fresh water rain run-off.

Anecdotally, water temps are quite subjective, as a very minor thermocline of 1° can be quite discernible and momentarily uncomfortable.

Your "30 dives on Bonaire" comment is incomplete as it doesn't give a time frame, suffice to say that doing 27 in a 1 week stay at CCV is not difficult. Many folks arrive with their panties in hyper-bunched mode and demand to dive on arrival day #1, These are people who manage to bat-out 20 dives in a week when the dust settles down. My advice? Get there, relax, hydrate, assemble your gear, sleep, dive on Sunday morning.

I dont really have a time slot, just thought it would be nice to get out around the holidays. What is the best time of year to go? I could change months if needed as I have booked quite a long time in advance. The summer would be out as we are making a return trip to bonaire that year.

My personal favorite time is around Easter (March - April - until early May). Warm, usually dry conditions, if you can try for a full moon.

I enjoyed May the most.

My October trip we were visited by Hurricane Wilma.
Interesting but not what you want when on vacation.

Anybody want to join us at CocoView in April 2016?

Consider one or both weeks, Saturday April 16-23, Saturday April 23-30 with an April 22 FULL MOON

Not running a formal trip here, but if you call 800 510-8164 and ask to be on "Doc's Trip", we will take you out on night dives with Black Lights, and you'll get a nice underwater magnifier and tips on finding micro (not just macro) critters.
