if that was directed to me, I did say "rarely." ;)

If someone is running a dive boat over, entirely different matter.

Utila is a great place to dive and very secluded but Roatan is just as nice. Stay and enjoy Roatan. There are may places and things to do there. Make sure you do the West End and stay in West Bay. Great diving, beaches and people.

Thanks for all your replies. I talked to my husband about this this morning and he informed me he had already made reservations for staying on Roatan in a place called Barefoot Cay. Hope it is great! Is their diving op good? I think we can dive with whomever we choose, but they would be convenient. Thanks again! Looking for ward to it!

Barefoot Key is located within a very unique stretch along the Southern shore of Roatan... unlike anything else in the Caribbean.

Vertical walls that "break" in very shallow depths, 5' to 35', then run vertical straight down to the first sand shelf at 90'. Because of the position of the island, this area is Sunlit throughout most of the day. It is a florid environment that acts as a nursery for the oceans. It especially rewards the slow and observant diver, ones with good buoyancy and excellent observational skills. It is a night diving haven.

You are located within 20 minutes of two great artificial reef intact shipwrecks, also lying in very shallow water, no deeper than 65'.

The dive op there has been lately getting high acclaim. That's good, because contrary to your idea of being able to flit to another dive-op, that simply would not be practical. You are going to be on a small key (island or cay) located just offshore from the town of French Harbour. There are two AI resorts nearby (FI & CCV), but not really the place walk-ins appear. If you wanted to dive elsewhere, cab it on over to West End and get a picture of the deeper dives available on the West/North shores of the island- if weather permits.

It ought to be fun, check back with us with a detailed report.

We dove with Barefoot Divers one morning to do some south side dives since we were staying in the West End. They have two newish dive boats with wide swim steps that make it easy to enter/exit. Very accommmodating DM's - they very much mean it when they say "valet diving".

We dove Mary's Place just off the Cay - it's a more advanced dive (deeper) but you should be able to dive it by the end of the week - our second dive was over to Fantasy Island/Cocoview to dive the Prince Albert. Mary's Place is one of the best dives on Roatan so maybe save it for one of your last dives.

The Cay is nice - quiet. Very private, the diveshop and lofts are on the mainland but all the villas are on the Cay - across a 50' channel. They have a private water taxi that will take you back and forth. Nice beach area and there's dock that leads out to a palapa on the oceanside. We saw people snorkeling near it.

Nice open-air restaurant with great views upstairs - good food (breakfast) and pool area also - we spent a little time there waiting for friends to arrive. If I was going to Roatan as a couple, (normally we have a group) I would probably stay there.

We dove all week with Coconut Tree Divers in the West End. They're friends of the owners of Barefoot Divers and made all the arrangements for our transportation/dives. Maybe Barefoot Divers reciprocates?

CTD does 2 shallower dives in the afternoon starting around 1PM.

You might want to eat/explore the West End either before or after - lots of shops, bars, restaurants, nightlife. If Gay (owner) is at CTD - ask her for dining suggestions. Argentinean Grille was above average.

Thanks RoatanMan and diversteve for all of the info, I appreciate it! I am definitely looking for ward to the vacation and diving!
