Rigging a pony bottle

They're great, work really well for switching your pony between tanks. If you want to mount directly to your tank instead of using a sling set up, that is.

There are several systems on the market that are good. I use one called Bottle Buddy that is a 2 piece system that interlocks to secure the pony to your tank. 1 part is threaded onto the tank strap on your BC and the other piece is banded to the tank. At this point you need to determine how much of a regulator system you want to invest in. I have a full pressure gauge on mine and I loosely wire tie it with the 2nd stage so I have pressure indication when I need it. Make sure it is in the proper port. Some people just put a button gauge on the 1st stage.

eepwalla Now that I got my wall up to keep from getting hit by the nice opinions I am sure will start flying I will touch this.

I have had the same system that Nailer posted for 7 years and it works great. It even works with two bottles, one argon and one 19 cuft pony. It is a very stable system and rock solid. For recreational diving down to 100' or so it works good. Deeper I use a sling 30.

But, what ever system that your dad uses, he needs to practice, practice, practice using it on a very regular basis. I have a 1 1/2 hp gauge on a short hose wire tied to it so I can read the pressure.

I think my spool and SMB looks slightly less malignant.
