Hi all...

I am debating getting a lobster license next week. Wondering if I need to ID my tanks or anything like that. I think in Mass you have to put the last 4 digits of your social on your tanks. The receptionist at the licensing office wasn't sure and I couldn't find anything online. Any other info regarding RI rules would also be a plus. Thanks!

John

Can't help you with RI rules, but a nit regarding MA rules: what you put on your tanks is your 4-sigit lobster license number. By default, license number is in fact last four of your SSN, but you can change it if you want to. I did mine, because "SSN last four" are used for a lot of identifications, and I do not want to advertise mine.

I just got my license today and they did not mention id numbers on the tanks. I also stopped by my LDS to get my lobster guage to measure them and asked if I needed to do anything special...they said no. You need to guage all the lobsters you take (up to 10 per day) and you cannot take any females with eggs or females marked as breeders (they have a 'V' notched in thier tail).

Thanks! Where's your LDS? I live in Chepachet, RI now. Got my cert in Mass, but now that is a hike unless I'm already on the way to Cape Ann......

Looking to start diving in RI asap......

in RI you can take at night
and you dont have to have any numbers on your tank
your allowed to measure the lobsters at the waters edge.
and the bag limit is 8 per day..
i havent renewed mine for this year so i dont know for certan what the minn size is because it changes sometimes year to year.
and there is no max size. but theres no taking of egg bearing or v notch
