I was there from 99-2004. My instructors were Larry Byerly and Gary Hagland )both have been there for ever).

I was stationed on Kadena working AWACS.

ToriiDiver:
Hello all...I am a long time diver, but have been land-locked for the past seven or eight years and have not been diving. I was in the military and stationed in Okinawa, Japan where I did a lot of diving, even earning my Dive Master rating. However, my next duty station after Okinawa was Grand Forks, North Dakota, where I did some ice fishing and snowmobiling...but no diving. Since then, we have lived in Ohio and now Virginia. My last dive was while on vacation in Cancun. I took a cavern dive trip to the Ponderosa cavern in the Yucutan and then went to Cozumel for a drift dive. That was in August 1998 and I haven't been diving since then. That's a long time to be away from the sport and I'm ready now to get back into it. Hopefully, this discussion board will keep me motivated and get me up to speed on new equipment, dive destinations, etc.

Best regards...ToriiDiver

Welcome, BTW I'm stuck in Grand Forks myself right now.

Yikes! Im sure youll make the best of it.

Welcome to the board and back to the sport!

Be sure to check out some of the local clubs. They're a great place to find out about local dive trips. You're more than welcome to join the NC Wreck Divers - in fact, I think we're diving Lake Rawlings next month, conditions permitting.

Hope to cross paths underwater,
Grier

I was also at Kadena. I was with with the Combat Logistics Support Squadron doing depot level maintenance. We didn't do anything with AWACS but did a lot with the 18th. I didn't know your instructors, but there were a lot of them available on the island. I enjoyed being there and have a lot of good memories of the diving.
