My son and his new bride called from New Orleans this afternoon headed off on their honeymoon cruise with Carnival. One of their stops was going to put them in Cozumel. Being that we own a home there we are constantly looking for folks headed south.
So I packed a big wheeled bag with about a hundred pounds of construction stuff that I needed to finish some electrical and woodwork on our house. They were able to check in with no problem. When the bag went through security he got a phone call and had to go explain to security why he needed a skill saw, grinder and handsaw along with an assortment of electrical components for his week long cruise.
He was told by Carnival security that they will no longer allow sharp pointy things including skill saws, handsaws, dive knives and the like and that about three months ago they eliminated their secure storage area for such items which they would keep until you departed.
A second 50 lb. bag with an electric skillet, blender, boxes of sweet and low, and big rolls of trash bags didn't seem to bother them.
Carnival was nice enough to drive him back to his car so that he could drop the bag off. This stuff will have to go in my checked luggage when I fly down in about a week.
