My GF and I just completed our AOW certifications last weekend and we would like to jump right into the Rescue certification if its still possible this late in the year. Are there any Rescue cert classes going this late? Is one certification agency better than another for this cert? Thanks.

I'm teaching one for Adventure Scuba in Plano soon. Classroom is the 19th with CSSP on the 21st. There isn't anyone in it, and there is a minimum, so it may not make.

TwoBit

If TwoBit's class doesn't make, you might give Debra a call at Surface Interval Scuba in Arlington. I highly recommend both, I don't think you could go wrong with either. The only thing that would make me choose one over the other would be class schedule or proximity to you.

Thanks for the input. Any other options out there? Anyone doing any this late in the year?

Also, we have completed up through AOW through PADI, but some local shops are NAUI and SSI. Any issue with crossing over for that class? Are there NAUI and SSI equivalents to the PADI Rescue class?

You might want to call and check a few schedules for various classes around the metroplex. Some shops may not have a schedule on their website but they may offer a class if they know a few people are interested and custom fit it to your schedule.

Naui Rescue Diver - PADI Advanced certification with CPR/First Aid ( EFR) training is all that is needed to enter the Naui program
Once you are 15 years of age and a certified scuba diver, you can expand your diving knowledge with a Scuba Rescue Diver course. Learn how to manage risks and effectively handle limited in-water problems and diving emergencies, how to assist and transport divers, and how to perform surface rescues and rescues from depth involving both boat and shore based skin and scuba divers.
CPR and First Aid certifications are required to complete this course. Your Scuba Rescue Diver training moves you on your pathway to becoming a NAUI Leader: Skin Diving Instructor, Assistant Instructor, Divemaster, or Instructor.

You may want to inquire at University Scuba in Arlington for a rescue class
http://universityscuba.org/. They offer a really great Naui program over an entended period of time and that may be what you are looking for. I think they will start one next Spring so that may not be soon enough for you.

Take a look at the SSI website for information about local dive shops and crossover requirements. http://www.ssiusa.com/ . You can try Burleson Scuba for a rescue clas also http://www.burlesonscuba.com . PREREQUISITES: Must be certified Open Water diver or an equivalent rating and be 12 years of age older. First Aid and CPR training is also required for the Stress/Rescue course

I would say try Scubatoys but I think they stop their continuing education classes during the winter. You may want to call and ask though now that Mike is head of their training department. Maybe they will expand it? Maybe they will schedule a class just for you?

The water is getting colder now and a lot of rescue skills are done on the surface so if you don't mind a little rain/wind or sleet in 60 - 65 degree water ( November) then you may be able to find what you are looking for.

That reminds me, you can also check with a local diving club, they always have independent instructors within the membership and you can check with them to plan a class.
