Yes, It WAS my opinion - and I'm sticking to it.
Second, where did I say the links weren't from the main stream media???
Damn, should I have quoted FOX to be creditable?

Just quote the facts and allow intelligent persons to draw their own conclusions. As long as scientists on both sides argue about what the evidence indicates then it's all up for debate.

I like global warming. It reduces my need to burn those nasty fossil fuels and dead trees ... saves me money :D I remember in the late 1970s the dire warnings of an impending ice age.

And FWIW the earth is not a living breathing organism. As far as evolutionary theory goes it's just a ball of dirt hurtling through the galaxy and we are nothing more than a random happenstance. If that's the case, so what if we trash the joint? Something else will evolve that is better able to exist. Right?

an admirable show of sangre-froid for self-anihiliation, but i'd prefer to hang
around about as long as possible

seppuku is just so messy....

Hanging isn't messy. Nor is poison. ;)

Nor am I truly in favor of self-inflicted death. Just pointing out the irrelevance of "caring" if everything is nothing more than an accident.

Whatever.

As you said, I’m all in favor of allowing debate to iron out the issues at hand. But that’s not what’s happening. When you have people like Rush getting on a soapbox and expounding on man’s inability to alter his environment and categorizing anyone who disagrees as an environmental wacko, it influences a lot of people. Dissent isn’t a swear word!

I do have a couple of additional points:

I would like to know where you got the solar powered air conditioner that doesn’t have any impact on fossil fuel consumption.

I remember the ’70s too. I remember how Japan took most of our auto market post ’73 because we only knew how to make the “Detroit Iron”. Who do you think is doing the majority of research on hybrids????

The problem with trashing the joint is that when you move out the cockroaches come to my house looking for food

well, there are many parents whose children were "an accident," and they
still love those kids to death

and i would love my wife and want to stay with her as long as possible
whether there was some master plan at work or not.

basically, i'll never know that masterplan, so it's irrelevant to me.

i'd act the same no matter what.

I have to agree with the "against fossil fuel post" post. Maybe the world is establishing an equilibrium. By warming, there will be less burning of fossil fuels. I'm not too sure if that means the Earth needs to have a mind of its own to do that.

I've been watching this site for a few years. The Portland Maine low point is February 33F average. http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/dsdt/cwtg/natl.html

Oddly I'm catching some of the lowest numbers of the year dipping into the 37Fs but nowhere near 33 average for any month. In February we were generally 40F!

As I recall it was very late in dipping last year but did eventually hit average for January or February.

As for the current month we would seem to be about 2 degrees above normal.

Casco bay has some dynamics asside from the Atlantic in general so it may not be truly indicative of the ocean as a body.

Relax people, the planet will compensate. Warm things up too much, melt a little too much polar ice into the north atlantic for example and boom, the ensuing ice age in the northern hemishpere will help cool things down.

Hell, even if we melt everything in a nuclear holocaust, within a few million years a new dominant life form will take over and infest the planet, just like we mammals did from the dinosaurs.

But even if any one, or some combination, of these possibilities were to happen, the planet would still recover in time. One hundred or even one hundred thousand years? Pffft, to the planet that's but a fraction of a second.

Btw, if we really want to do something to help the planet, we should think about ways of reducing world over-population, like having only one child instead of three. The larger the population gets the worse things will become.

Or we could just build nuclear power plants all over the place. Everybody loves THAT option.

But just to keep things in perspective, by the time global warming becomes a major problem, some moron with nothing to lose will decide to use a nuclear weapon to start WWIII, like Iran or North Korea. At that point global warming will be the least of our worries.

I still can't see how slowly melting ice caps increase water levels. The ice, is composed of gases and water. As the ice melts, the gases escape into the atmosphere, and the overall level of water is negligible.

Try this experiment: Fill a glass of water to the brim. Freeze it, then bring it out of the freezer and put it on the table. When the ice thawes, the glass doesn't overflow; why? Because of gases in the water/ice.
