thanks again for the tips DA
and what about the availability of kits and parts for future servicing of the d400, would that pose a problem? also would newer techs have a problem with this reg as you pointed out?

SP has only dsicontined support for 3 regs in baout 40 years - the Pilot and Air 1 and the 1rst gneration Air 2, and all were regs that sold in low numbers or had issues of some sort.

SP made a ton of D300, D350 and D400 regs so I don't see them discontinuing support any time in the next decade or so and they all use the same daphragm and annual service kits. The D400 is not hard to adjust, just different in both what you adjust and the order you adjust it. If you have atech who does not know how, I could proably post instructions - and have done so in the distant past here on the board - a fairly careful serach should turn up a thread or two with adjustment instructions.

wow man that would be awesome. what if i serviced my own stuff. thats something ive always wanted to do. how difficult would it be and would i need any specialized equipment and training aside from divers toolset and your posts?

:)

Doing your own service is not difficult to learn, but probably a D series reg is not the place to start. Get a 109 and/or a G250 to work on. There are lots of threads about getting started in DIY service. The Vance Harlow book on regulator repair is a good place to start.

hi guys i just wanna thank everyone who has been very helpful regarding my 2nd stage dilemma.
i have however decided to sell my old reg and get a barely used AQ Legend LX with legend octo, spg, and lp hose for a net of 200 dollars. that was just an offer i could not refuse.

SP has always been my favorite and AQ has been a fairly distant second. i have tested the AQ on land but have yet to take it diving. i hope this badboy breathes as well as my old mk10/glacia.

the guy i bought it from is a very reputable fellow and i have full faith when he says it breathes like a piston and can be used 360 degrees.

again thanks for all the tips and help!
