Any disadvantages from removing the grommet from my BP webbing? I want to this so the STA will sit a little flatter and I will have a little more threading on the bolt so I can add a lock washer.

I wouldn't recommend it. What I have found is the threads of the posts grab the nylon and begin to unravel it. It doesn't take long and you are replacing the webbing.

Why not just replace the bolt?

Perfect reason why not to. Thanks

...From FifthD. Just a hole; no grommet.

...Of course, it appears to have been made with a hot poker or something, as the edges of the hole are all "seared" and melted so that they won't fray.

~200 dives on this rig, no problems.

I removed the grommet from my webbing so my fredt 2pc STA would sit more solid. The problems with the top hole is that you have a grommet from the webbing plus a grommet from the wing. My top STA sat much better after the grommet from the webbing was removed. I also seared the hole so it wouldn't unravel. It has been that way for some time now and shows no signs of excessive wear or unraveling.

I use a soldering iron to make holes in webbing.
I even have a soldering iron that is only used for making holes in plastic/fabric.

This works great for any bolted connection.
Only items that get point loaded like belt buckle holes really need a grommet.

How did you remove it without tearing up the webbing?

I used wire cutters to grab the gromet along the edge and pliers to hold the grommet while i twisted it with the wire cutters. It came off really easy and didnt hurt the webbing at all. After you remove the grommet use a soldering iron, super glue or something to sear the hole.
