Perhaps a combination? A more attentive, shirt lifting wife with a speargun, honking a sub-alert while waving a 18 watt HID can light? Pay attention!
...we have a winner, folks! The next contest will be starting soon....I'm sure....

Having tried tank bangers, carrabiner banging on tank, underwater rattle and lights for signalling, has anyone got other ideas of something more reliable. When wearing a thick hood the sound from any of the mentioned devices does not carry and lights don't work well, particularly if swimming one behind the other.

Alternative ideas gratefully received.

A gentle squeeze of the upper arm works just fine. If your buddy contact is good this is one of the easiest ways to get your buddy's attention.

I'm with Diver0001 on this one.

Reading this thread, I was thinking, just reach out and touch them.
I tell my students that a good buddy should be within arms reach.

I like to be in arms reach, in combination with the aforementioned lycra shirt method... :11:

My wife and I use these

You can hear them from 50' or more.

We know......

Everyone knows......

People who you have never met know......

And none of them want to be within 50' of you.

If everyone knows... why did someone ask?

No need to be rude about it.

Sorry. I didn't mean to be rude. What I was trying to say is that those clatter things make *so* much noise that they're possibly worse than the problem. :)

Dude, you've gotten some thought-provoking answers, including shirt-lifting women. :D Hope you're seeing a trend here.

If your buddy isn't responding well to...what did you say? banging on tanks or underwater rattles? The answer is NOT more technology. The answer is either (A) another buddy; or (B) some serious low-tone private discussion between you and your buddy to correct this situation.

Noisemakers totally ruin the zen for the rest of the divers down there. On a charter with 8 pairs of divers, the amount of banging, rattling, honking, quacking, whistling, and lights flashing make it look and sound like a disco.

Everybody comes up annoyed.

There are better options, as Diver0001 noted.

Best,

Doc
