I dive BP/W for NJ wreck diving, and in generally the idea of staying geared the same way for everything, everywhere makes sense.

But darn, I don't really wanna truck my SS BP and 6lb STA across the country, but I sure would like to have "my gear, my way" when I get there.

Here's what else all I'll be bringing to Catalina for the weekend:

- mask
- fins
- DUI trilam drysuit with BARE polar extreme undies
- regs long/short cave rigged
- AI wrist computer.
- Will toss in a safety sausage whistle, etc

Thoughts?

That is almost word for word what I took to Catalina last year and I mean word for word. One bag for gear and one bag for clothes. One carry on for personal stuff. Basically, if you are mostly going to dive then I suggest you bring YOUR gear. You will want your stuff when you get there. The diving can be similiar with generally better viz on most days and slightly warmer but not much at depth. One day I had about 5 feet of viz, current, rough seas, and the cold at depth as well and I felt at home. ;) The rest were much better with viz as high as 40 ft, no current, calm waters, and tons to see. Are you going to dive the Casino? Those are some of my favorite dives to date! Easy and effortless shore diving in kelp. Have fun you lucky dawg!

Are you going to dive the Casino?

Three-tank boat diving Saturday, followed by Sunday shore diving at Casino point. (Followed by a national sales meeting for work on Monday.)

I haul everything but tanks on every trip - including my resent Monterey trip, and my Catalina trip before that. I wouldn't do it any other way.

BTW, my guess is you won't be feeling well enough for your meeting Monday. However, some fresh air might do the trick. :eyebrow:

Since I'll be presenting the whole "what are we doing in 2007" thing to our entire company, include 1,000 rep sales force flying in from all over the country, I'm guessing I better at least pop in during the surface interval.

All I need now is a plausible excuse to do my presentation in a dry suit, and I'm all set.

:-)

Even with airline weight restrictions being as draconian as they are, I just returned from a trip to Belize where I took my SS plate so my trim would be "just right". I'd say bring it all except cylinders and lead.

All the best, James

Pack it all and fly Jet Blue, 70# per checked bag instead of 50!

I've dove Jersey and SoCal, the biggest difference will prolly be the better viz overall. What boat are you diving? Also, watch out for the step at Casino Point, it can be a lot of fun, or it can be a big PITA.

You're other list looks fine, if you feel the need to bring a spool for the sausage to possible do a blue water ascent, a finger spool will do fine. No reel wrecks out there. Yukon's wide open, if you get a preference. You might bring some backup lights if you want to do a night dive at the point. It's quite nice. I think a HID would be overkill. The air fill station is right next to the entry way, AL80's and steel 72's and nothing but air, but it's really handy. Just don't try and get a fill after 4:00, which as I re-read your diving the point on Sun, so no night dive...

Have fun!
-Sean
