I wasn't aware that there was a 4 port design of the MK5.
I know the 2 port ones can be used with an Air-2. That's what I did with mine. But, yeah... you can also carry a "Spare Air" I would characterize using an Air-2 to solve such a problem in the context of modern gear as a kludge. It was an adequate solution in the transition period but it's out of date, imo.
