You're probably talking about the G250HP with the plastic air barrel. I was referring to the old style G250 with the metal air barrel. If you're saying that the metal air barrel wore so much that the lever would not work correctly, that's something I'd like to see a photo of.
I never saw a G250HP. I was talking about the G250.
But maybe I am talking old regs in the Pacific. Which means they are rusting all the time because of the salt air, and they are either used every day, or stored on a boat in a bag (which usually means no rinsing).
And yes the metal barrel is what wears out. The corrosion takes off the plating, and then the brass is softer than the stainless lever. So you end up with a non square hole where the lever goes in. Any time you have dissimilar metal in contact in the ocean, you have electrolysis, it seems, and the stainless lever on a chromed brass inlet tube is the same way. The difference in the Pacific is that you are never really out of the ocean. No matter how well you rinse, there's enough salt in the air to corrode stuff like that.
