Some years ago I was able to enter the Regina and make my way to the bow wheelhouse, can this still be done safely, I've heard there is a lot of decay inside these days.

I believe you remember a different wreck. The wheel house is smashed in rock.

I think he is referring to the steel texas/ focsle below the wooden wheelhouse. It has pancaked a good amount up there especially in the chain locker, it's still a tight squeeze to get in there but it will ultimately be a waste of time. Getting into the engine room bilge space is pretty cool.

So what are the penetration opportunities on the Regina?

Engine room bilge, anything else? I can do either twinset or SM, if space dictates.

Well you start with the engine room by following a trench that was dugout by divers to one of the access hatches. Once in the engine room look off to the right and look up and you will see another hatch that leads to the bilge. In the bilge you can take a right and end up at a door that is closed that leads to the cargo hold or take a left that will get you behind the boilers to the prop shaft and steering motor. The cargo hold can be swam the whole length but gives you the squeeze in one area. Then the bow is a very tight squeeze where you will see the pancaked floors of the chain locker and focsle.

Go behind the boilers? How small are you?

As a fat man in doubles, I can honestly say I have never been behind the boilers.

It's not spacious or safe by any means but something to gain experience from.

Seriously though, you take your tanks off or you really fit with gear on?

If you are wearing doubles it will be a silty adventure to get back there. I forget which way to do it, either between the boilers or around them. Single tanks should not have a problem because when first discovered Wayne and a few others got back there. It's a lot easier just to probe the first dive to refresh the memory.
