REEF ID Class - POSPONED to November 12 &13, 2004

For St Auggie I was thinking spring time.. I'll need to do some research to find out what time of year is good for diving up there.

Just as a note, the development of Frances in the Atlantic and her track will be a HUGE factor in this class. While there are some who are "Dive or Die", I have no desire for the later while doing reef dives during a hurricane.. granted it would provide a very unique perspective! Please refer to the link below and your favorite weather website (I love www.noaa.gov and www.intellicast.com for the variety of info) to keep track of Frances progress. I'm going working on a contingency plan for the class should this one be hurricaned out - I'm leaning towards rescheduling for one month later, other suggestions will be considered as well.

I definitely agree with having a contingency plan. I believe, however, that it's still far too early to lean in any given direction. I'd suggest that we keep things as scheduled and make a decision later in the week, perhaps no earlier than Thursday.

The latest models have the eye of Frances north of Grand Bahama Island at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday. If it holds to that (if being the operative word), it might be ok to do the class. It may not be flat seas, but it just might be good enough to hold the class. But by no means should we compromise our safety.

I agree. I love diving as much as anyone, but we can always dive another day. Let's wait until Thursday to make a definite decision.

This is what NOAA is calling for this week. Keeping in mind that when the winds are from a westerly direction, the east coast is usually flat, I would be hesitant to believe the forecast for Saturday. I still believe that a decision should be left for later in the week. Enjoy!!!

Dude, based on that forecast we'll not be doing the class or even shore diving as scheduled. I'm hangin' tight till the Tuesday evening news. IF forcasts appear to be the same I'm going to make the call to reschedule.

Well if this storm does cause the class to be rescheduled, I have another plan for this weekend. I have already offered it to Cbulla, and am offering it to a few others if interested and if weather holds out. I am getting wet one way or another so I think a dive trip to a local site here might be good.
