DandyDon:
Me, too. I do know that our ancestors did not adapt to pure water, though. And I've seen 3 Padi Instructos become ill with dehydration on rev oss water the first day in Belize, before they switched to sport drink.

I make my own, with Kool Aid and Morton Lite Salt.

I want to find out what's what, and I'm honestly not trying to pick a fight, but your story about the PADI instructors is of course anecdotal evidence, and their getting sick may very well have had nothing at all to do with how the water they drank was processed, or even to do with their state of hydration. As to the bit about our ancestors not adapting to pure water, I'm not sure what that means.

Isn't there a forum in here about dive medicine? If so, I'll take this question there.

I'm sure you're not trying to start a fight, and - I, too, would like to see better evidence. For now, all I have is memories of what I've been taught in the past, anecdotes, and logic. That's is, when you're in the tropics and outdoors, sweating a lot more than you do at home, you may not notice it with the breezes evaporating the sweat - but you're losing Sodium and Potassium faster than your body is used to. If you drink pure water, you're not replacing it very quickly, and can run short.

What I meant by our ancestors is - our specie has been drinking ground water for millions of years, with electrolytes in it. To suddenly change to pure water in one generation will overdraw the system as described.

But I will look forward to professional advice. I've tried to get it there, but no takers.

I think that it can only help not hurt. Anything that gets people thinking and talking about hydration is a good thing.
