2018 is pretty recent considering the world has stopped for the past 2 years.

Anything new will still take several years of vetting in the community to check validity. Nobody has really been discussing anything, other than deep stops, so don't expect anything new.
 
Mark Powell's books strongly advocate for deep stops and favor the VPM algorithm. Mark has since moved away from that and stated that those stops are too deep.

Thinking about this has indeed changed greatly in the last 5 years. If you start with those books and then read (or view videos) from people like those you mentioned to get the updates, you will be fine.
