My husband and I just finished our NAUI course and will be going to Maui over spring break. We plan to do our open water certification there. There are so many dive companies to choose from - does anyone have a recommendation? How much should we expect to pay for the 4 dives required? We are staying in the Wailea area.

Welcome to the board!
Can't help you with your questions but you should be able to check the dive operators websites and see how much they wil charge for the checkout dives.
Have a great time on your trip.
Joe

Maui Dreams http://mauidreamsdiveco.com/dive/instruction/referral/index.php and
B&B Scuba http://www.bbscuba.com/services.htm are dives shops with good reputation. B&B is PADI; IIRC, Maui Dreams is also PADI, but they can probably finish off your cert dives even if you started with NAUI instructor. Give them a call.

Shaka Doug http://www.shakadivers.com/certification.htm is a dive instructor based in Kihei. He does lots of shore dives with both certified divers and Discover Scuba divers. Lots of experience.

It looks like referral courses are $200-$250 range. All three of the above are based in Kihei, which is adjacent to Wailea.

My advice is to call the above guys and talk a bit with your potential instructor, then pick the one you have the best feeling about.

kidspot:
If in Kihei check with B&B or Maui Dreams. If staying in Lahaina/Kaanapali check out Pacific Dive. all three have websites, just drop the names in google.

If you'll be on island March 4 feel free to join the Maui SB contingent at Airport beach - it's a great site for new divers too :) http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=130955

Aloha, Tim

P.S. you might also post in the Hawaii Ohana forum http://www.scubaboard.com/forumdisplay.php?f=291

I'm curious about Pacific Dive. Do they have their own boat or do they just book seats on someone else's boat? I'm looking at Lanai options for my visit later this spring.

Later,

When booking with B&B online, the first dive is $119 per person. Subsequent dives are $99. Also check out the Hawaii-O'Haha thread, but specifically http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=130879

Kidspot, I'm just sorry we didn't get to meet you when in Maui last month. Next time!

Welcome to SCUBABOARD! When will you get here? The water has been real nice down in Makena the last couple of days and it feels like it's already warming up a degree or two.

My vote would be to use B&B for boat trips out of Kihei, Shaka Doug for classes or shore diving.

Plenty of other good choices on the island, but those are two of the best.

The Maui Scubaboard Crew is a pretty awesome group of people... going to try to meet more of them the next trip I make out there.

Ask Charlie where to find the best cinammon rolls on the island =)

-Brandon.
