?? Please explain the hydrogen comment. I thought h20 = water? How would breathing water be better? And yes I know that you need two parts hydrogen to every part of oxygen, but still.

There's hydreliox and hydrox. I think these are experiemental deep mixes.

I don't want this to turn into a flame war. Would someone please explain to me if Tech1 incorporates Advanced Nitrox where one would make deco dives on air using a rich Nitrox mix slung?

every agency is a little different
not that any are better or worse, but what agency are you using?

GUE Tech 1 is close to TDI's Adv Nitrox/Deco Proc/Trimix combination

The end result is that both certifiy a diver for single deco bottle trimix diving.

The air part....never. Air is for tires.

i use air all the time
130 or less... air with 50% as deco
i do it every weekend
once in a great while i might throw some 28% in there
to each his own.
AND after i get back to the dock if my 34" swampers are a little low, i can just haul out my backgass thro a chuck on my LP hose asd air up :)
its called efficiency :)

TDI. Trying to discuss the differences in philosophy.

Diesel298:
wow.
i didnt read this whole thread.
basically as long as theres a corse out there.
the c-card collectors will jump on it.
people need to take the class for the diving they will be doing.
just from a cost standpoint. diving He at 100 fsw is nuts

now allow me to don my flame retardant suit

*sigh*, helium is not the central bit to the rectriox class. most of it was dealing with failures, keeping the team together, buoyancy and trim, ascent drills, mask off drills, mask off ascents, etc. its not a 'c-collector' class. if it were just about breathing helium it'd be composed of gas filling, analyzing and a little instruction not to ascend too fast....

and if you'd like to go on a dive at 100 fsw where helium makes a difference, I can arrange -- particularly after the spring plankton blooms hit here and the viz goes...

well i think with where your at its all the same really.
TDI has 3 different c cards for what looks like GUE's 1 c card..
i know little about GUE's structure, but with TDI the classes can be talored to the divers needs.
its all good

TheRedHead:
That's ridiculous. You can't equate a difference of opinion with a failure to evolve. Otherwise, you will fall into the stereotype of GUE who believes that everyone else is doing it wrong and if I'm not mistaken, aren't you guys trying to get rid of that image? Just because GUE says it is doing it right, doesn't make it so for everyone. That's pretty dogmatic.

You missed my point. Information, technique, skills, training and understanding have evolved over time. New information contradicts old in some cases and that can leave some in an indefensible position if they choose to ignore the new.

In the 70's we taught 60FPM as a safe ascent rate. Information has evolved and the result is slower ascent rate. Still, there are those who would argue 30FPM is crap and 60fpm is perfectly fine. If I was approached by a student I had advised in the 70'
s about ascent rates, I would tell them I was wrong. I think it would be a valid follow up question for that student to ask what else I'd been wrong about. Being wrong is not the best thing for ones credibility.

As for the GUE reference.. I'm with the Heritic and that's an entirely different image problem. ;)
