Here is a link to sign up for Leisurepro's discount: Veterans & Military Service Discount Program

onlinescuba.com also offers a 15% military discount. You sign in through AAFES and find them as a vendor. Create you account and it remembers you as an AAFES exchange customer and applies the 15% to everything you buy, does not appear to have any brand restrictions.

Real ID compliant driver's licenses will be required by the TSA to use as an ID to board commercial aircraft in 2020 (you can use a passport instead). As a result many of us will be updating or renewing our drivers licenses next year. I just discovered that you can get a Veterans ID on a Driver’s License or ID Card issued by your state.

More Info: Veterans ID on Driver's License or ID Cards by State | Military Benefits

These state programs now make it easier for veterans to receive access to government benefits and discounts at restaurants and retailers.

Here is a sample for a California license:

Before anyone asks, no this is NOT my license. :)

Edit: FYI, Home Depot offers a 10% discount to US Vets for example. I wish I knew that when I was building my house!
You did not loose a lot with home depot the 10% does not apply to building materials.

texas has this also and it is free if done at timeof renewal otherwise it is a 15 dollar fee (there abouts)

Fee? Here in California I read that it's the same price as the regular driver license. I'll find out for sure next week. I have to go in for the eye exam anyway but I'm not sure why--I haven't crashed into anything.

I went in and applied for my Real ID. It was exactly the same price as the regular driver license ($36). I just needed to bring my passport, SS card, and something with my address on it.

That should be the case. If your license doesn't expire before Oct 1, 2020 /and/ you need it to board flights, then you would need to renew your license early; otherwise, wait til for the normal renewal and use a passport or other approved I.D.

I got my California Real ID about 2 months ago. If you get your Real ID as part of a regular license renewal, there is no extra fee, just the regular renewal fee. If you get it before a renewal, then there will be a fee.

In my case it was the routine renewal, except my picture was about 20-25 years old and they wanted to find out if I could still see. Oh, and my hair is not brown any more....

NY is free got it about a year ago all that was needed was DD214 they then post a V on license.

Once you sign up a Lowe's any family member can receive the 10% off here in NY

I have always received the 10% off at home depot no what I bought.

Also check your tax receiver if you own a house here I get a 15% tax reduction on my taxes because I am a veteran with a combat related disability ....steep price to pay :)

I requested a copy of my DD214 online from the National Archives. Only cost was a postage stamp to send in my signature.

Took the DD214 to the Texas DPS and applied for a replacement DL. Cost was $11 if you don't count time spent standing in line. (Would have been free if done during renewal)

New Driver's License with 'Veteran' designator arrived last week. Easy Peasy.

I'm guessing that the "Veteran" designator is the same for all of the states. On my California "Real ID" the only indication is a bear in the upper right corner. So, my worry is how many TSA agents are going to know all 50 indicators for the various states? Perhaps just having a state symbol in the upper right is all they need to know, but somehow I don't have faith that all 50 states got together and agreed on that.
