I'm a Fish!
Oh yeah!

After reading Dark Descent, and seeing the great picture of the DEPENDable Divers. I am wondering...

(I'm also female, so bear with me...)

Many of the men I dive with use P-valves. I know of none that use diapers. Of course we are not doing deco diving with 3-4 hours in the water either. Are Diapers still that popular? I was just really surprised. This isn't something way back when either, just in the last couple of years.

I was just sort of surprised.

Its a great read by the way!

Lots of divers, especially female use diapers when diving in a dry suit.

We would only use diapers with a drysuit without a pee valve and only for dives in excess of 3 hours. If your not going to be in the water that long you can probably hold it.

Hint: No coffee or large drinks before the dive.

O-and wear your diaper backwards, it holds more pee that way. (for men at least)

Commercial divers usually use diapers.

A P-valve is a contamination risk both ways so in any kind of potable water or contaminated water dive it would be prohibited.

You can take my coffee when you pry it from my cold dead hands.
I have enough trouble staying hydrated on the job so I am not going to restrict my water intake.

I WILL wear diapers. :eyebrow:

We use them.

Some are saying that dives over three hours or deco or ?. Well we get on operations where we are suited up for several hours but are not in the water. No place to go and a lot of press and family around so, yes we wear them. Even a pee valve wouldn,t be cool at all.

Besides a pee valve gives a suit one more possible failure point.

And I don't know for sure, but it has to be like diving with a blow up doll. Tried a glue on one ONCE. That will never happen again!!!!!!!!!

No way. When I'm well hydrated for a dive I could pee a bunch of times in three hours. Hold it? Boy that would make for a less than enjoyable dive.

Good tip about wearing it backwards though. I'll have to try that the next time I get stuck without caths.

The Empress of Ireland. It is written by Kevin McMurray. Several times it refers to them suiting up and putting on their diapers. There is a really cute picture showing the backs of 4 men standing on a dock, wearing only their diapers. Their names are not given. The caption for the picture was 'Real Divers wear Diapers'.

Yes I know women wear them more, I was just surprised that they were as common as they are for men.

I'm told they are not only for divers. Also, pilots on long missions and without "facilities" wear them too. Call them Piddle Pads I'm told. One of the few things the Life Support folks won't take care of for the pilots. Wonder why?:)

I know mothers have their favorite brands for their kids. How about you users out there. What are your favorite brands and sizes?
