DandyDon:
Try a heating pad. May help.

Thanks.

This sounds silly, but the outer ear hurts more than the inner ear! The only effects that I notice of my inner ear is that it feels full (not painful) and my hearing is muffled (from the fluid). I dare not even touch my outer ear though... it feels like I've been hit with a softball or something. I know... it sounds silly... but it feels incredibly "bruised". (For lack of better words.)

I know the inner ear problem well - full, muffled. I have never had the outer ear problem so cannot speak from experience, and I am certainly not qualified to offer more than my anecdotes here.

You need to see a physician ASAP, and if the one you can see the ENT ASAP. Good luck.

You weren't out in weather cold enough to get a mild case of frostbite did you? I had that once when I was in college and my outer ear hurt bad for a while. I feel for you, I remember that pain very clearly and its been close to 20 years. I hope you get better soon.

Thanks everyone... I'll be on the phone to the ENT today. I'm hoping maybe they can work me in later today.

As far as frostbite... nope, haven't been in the cold for that long.

Good Luck girl..Ear infections suck, I seem to have one every year. So I bought a Sahara Ear Dryer... Let you know how that works...

Becareful with flushing an ear with any vinegar/alcohol or vin/alcohol/h202 solutions. Alcohol can be ototoxic to inner ear, so should not be used with ruptured ear drums.

I am wondering if those diver ear plugs would be a good idea for one with a ear drum problem - keep the water out but allow pressure changes..??

Not too many people seem thrilled with them. However, I am going to get a pair for lil sis. I think they are worth a try at least. It's not like they are super expensive. So...
