I just got a great deal on a second stage reg but already have a good one. I was planning on using it for an octo but I want to distinguish it as an octo. Does anyone have any suggestions of a good way to do that? Maybe know of some yellow tape that will hold up under water, etc..?

Many manufacturers can supply colored plates to allow just the thing you want to do.

Check with the manufacturer here on the board and see what they have to offer.

First: Welcome to Scuba Board
Second: Say hello to my friends in Zero
Third: Go to this web site for your hose covers: Innovative Scuba TechFlex Hose Cover

Tell them you are a member here for a discout.

I have identical second stages and wrapped yellow electrical tape around the hose as it comes into the second stage. There is no yellow plate available that I know of for my second stage. My back up second stage is on a pony bottle however.

If it is truely an octo and they are identical why are you worried about discerning which one is which? Better that you breathe off each one anyhow. This way you know they are both working properly.

Thanks all for the tips. They were very helpful! And just to clear up the confusion it is not an octo, I'm just using it as my backup in the place of an octo, it is a standard second stage that's why I'm wanting to distinguish it.

I think that Dive Junky makes a good point, switch regs, there is no requirement that your octo has to be labled. If you do not label them, there is a better chance that you will use them both and know for a fact that you have 2 working regs if you need to use one as an octo.

A good start would be to preface a specific question like yours with a subject line a little more specific than "Question?"

;)

Years ago I used a yellow hose protector slid down near the designated octo second stage. Cost about $1. These days, I don't bother.

I wouldn't bother doing anything special to it either. Chances are if a diver is OOA, they will grab the reg that's in your mouth.
