How was the vis in the river? I heard about 2 weeks ago that it was 5'ish, and I am hopeful that it will be better for the MegaDive next month.
We had at least 15 feet horizontal vis. It was easier to see in the shady areas though, when the sun was blazing between the trees it screwed your vision up enough to reduce "visibility".

Who made up the rule of no solo near a cave?

Why Ginnie?

I have only been stopped solo at state parks.

Vortex allows solo. Morrison and Cypress there is not anyone to stop you,..yet.

7 seconds,...95% of my diving in the past 20 years have been solo. I was certified 32 years ago, and I have a solo instructors cert. You should not be experimenting with solo if you only have 16 - 50 dives. Doing so around caves may make you a cadiever!

Ber Rabbit:
We were doing a night dive in the cavern last month and I look down and there is a solo diver in cave equipment with her light off in the ballroom. I hadn't seen her get in because my divers had just certified the day before and I was focused on them but after the dive one of my students said the diver had hurried up and gotten ready and got in right after we did. I saw her exit shortly after we got out of the water. I originally thought she was an employee watching us because they knew my divers were new and this would be their first night dive and I was letting them go in the cavern (Ok so I'm paranoid). When I had mentioned possibly drifting the river from the Devil's to Ginnie earlier in the day an employee almost had a cow because my divers were new and "you know how new divers are and stuff comes at you fast and they can get tangled in the trees and the visibility is really bad." BTW, we had a great time on the drift and the students even towed the flag, did all 3 Devils then drifted to Ginnie and ended up with an hour long dive and the students still came back with 1500psi (same as me).

Er , this lady you saw in the ballroom...
Did she have blonde hair ??? :D
If I am on the right track here , that person WAS NOT an employee !!!
(just practing cave skills , I bet ... )

Jeano Beano

P.S. I am glad you had a nice drift dive down the river...
Sounds like they had a great instructor ...
I noticed that Devils Ear is pushing farther out into the river...We shall see....
The only drift dive I have ever done down the Santa Fe , I couldn't see a thing...

Hmmm, how would you know she was blonde? Could that person by any chance have been you? :D

That was the first time I'd been in any of the Devil springs or in the river. It was definitely a fun dive.

jean sort of lives in the Ballroom

she knows every rock by name

Yeah, and every time she wraps line around a rock, she calls that rock "Andy". I haven't figured that one out yet....

jeandiver:
Ditto...
Of course they will say:
NO SOLO DIVING ALLOWED !!!

However , that being said ...

Jeano Beano

P.S. At the full cave level , if you dive with your BUDDY BOTTLE (Stage ) etc ... Well , you get my drift ...
Lets face it , it's done all the time...
Only the state parks POST the sign...
NO SOLO DIVING ...

Nuff said ...

And the Beano does NOT solo cave dive ...
(for many reasons I won't go into here ... )

Hey Jean how you doing, We dove last year there together , doing the ear to eye , I had the rebreather if you don't remember me

As far as solo diving, I have seen people solo diving there many time's. They were in full cave gear, and I'm sure full cave certified, or they were just crazy , and wanted to look like a caver ., lol

We dove the main cave many times , coming out at 11pm, and at that time of the night, it is not un common to see solo diver's , who wait for all the day traffic jam's ,etc to get out, usalley scootering in, by them selves.
