the rule isn't on the website (not that i can find it), but i asked one of the
employee types and they said no solo allowed. i also have seen solo
divers (not in the caves). i basically figured it was a don't-ask-don't-tell
thing.

however, as of late, they are coming down hard and enforcing the rules, so maybe
they'll formalize the policy now. the guy i asked said no solo allowed,
and that they'll remove you from the water.

You could very well be right about this Andy. I have never personally asked anyone that works there about solo diving, I just know I have never seen it posted anywhere. It's definately not listed on this sign (at the stairs to the eye/ear) as rule #5. :D Of course I wouldn't push the issue, as they may go and update their signs then.

Matt

i haven't seen a sign either

My husband and I are going to be in Pensacola this summer and we're thinking of taking a trip to Ginnie.

Does it ever get TOO crowded during the summer?

It gets a little crowded on the surface with all the tubers, and the ballroom can look like Grand Central Station on weekends, but it's still a great place to dive and explore.

BTW, it looks like it's taken a lot more than 7 seconds of work on the solo question, and it also looks like the answer has only been provided by SB members, not the Ginnie website. (Of course, I may be mistaken...)

And another thing - I love the "Charlie Don't Surf" line, Andy. I always thought I'd name my band that, if I had a band. Or if I suddenly grew some musical talent...

Sometimes you can walk across the basin without getting your feet wet!

If you're in P'Cola, and you are deadset of springs, why not the dive panhandle springs? They are quite nice. Morrison, Cypress, even Vortex is fun if you don't dive it constantly :D

one of the best lines in a movie full of great lines!

I like the smell of napalm in the morning.... it reminds me of ... victory.
[sadly] You know, this war is going to end some day.

Hmmm, I have never seen anything about no solo diving in ginnie springs/the ballroom. In fact I have solo dove there quite a bit and never had a problem. I've also seen quite a few solo divers in the devil's system.

Matt

Ditto...
Of course they will say:
NO SOLO DIVING ALLOWED !!!

However , that being said ...

Jeano Beano

P.S. At the full cave level , if you dive with your BUDDY BOTTLE (Stage ) etc ... Well , you get my drift ...
Lets face it , it's done all the time...
Only the state parks POST the sign...
NO SOLO DIVING ...

Nuff said ...

And the Beano does NOT solo cave dive ...
(for many reasons I won't go into here ... )

i don't solo cave dive.

i don't solo cavern dive either.

i don't solo overhead, period, no matter how benign it may seem

ok, call me a weenie
