Ontwreckdiver:I am buying a backplate and wing and have narrowed the search down to 2. 1 Diverite transplate harness & venture30+lb. wing. 2 OMS comfort harness system & 32lb. single tank wing. Anythoughts or opinions on these options would be a great help. thanks. I am diving a Bare CD4 drysuit & OMS 112 single steel tanks in the greatlakes
Hello, I have just done something similar. I got a ss plate, sta and wing. I have the trek wing, hammerhead plate and both hog and comfort harness. I have never dove it yet but have been playing with both. Thus far I have found issues (for me) with both harnesses. The comfort harness is a bit more comfortable on the shoulders but not all that much. The comfort harness has a bit too much extra strapping at the waist area because of both shoulder adjustments and waist, true, the excess is to be cut back once adjusted but it is still a bit much. The comfort harness is a bit easier to adjust but basically once it is done, its done. I was encouraged about the little oms velcro enclosures at each shoulder but once I used them, I think the bungee is a bit more effective as far as range of motion for the inflator hose is concerned. All in all, I may go back to the one pice hog rig, I just would like a chest strap but that I'd have to figure on my own. The biggest problem thus far for me is figuring out whether to use an air2 (as my other bc has) or go to a standard octo. I think based on what I have played (and I stress "played") with so far, the hog rig is the best choice both for function and cost. Keep in mind I more or less know nothing about these other than physically working with mine, but what I have found thus far for myself has remained consistent with what others have been saying.
