My wife and I are looking at booking the Iberostar Waves Cozumel and diving with Dressel's in early June. My question is did you book the hotel stay through Dressels's, direct with the hotel, or through the IHG website?

I've been corresponding with someone from Dressler's who's apparently in Spain (and they have an @gmaill.com email address which is sus to me but I also get that it's not uncommon for small businesses to handle business that way) but the price they quoted for the dive and stay seems higher than booking the hotel directly.

Also, did you book your dives in advance to get a pre-paid discount? We are happy to do that but are concerned about if someone is just tired or not feeling well losing the dives we paid for. They don't offer refunds, rather they offer a voucher good to dive with them again over the next five years. That wouldn't be terrible as Cozumel is easy to get to for me, but it's not as good as a refund. If you did book your dives in advance, how did they ask you to pay? Again, my correspondence so far has all been via email after I filled out their on-line form.

We also plan on doing a Cenote excursion while we are there.

Just curious on how others handled their accommodations and if anyone has any advice.

much easier to get a all inclusive formula with flight and accommodation with expedia. Dressel diver is a a dive shop in all iberostar property you could not book the hotel portion with them.

If i be you i will just reserve my spot for diving once i am there. For bad weather diving could be cancel the same day.

Cheers

Our dive shop goes through Dressel Divers for the hotel and the dive excursions. It's package they offer. That being said, they also played fast and loose with what they said we would get. Our shop owner/trip leader was told that all rooms would be "pool view." We arrived and were told that all rooms were "where available." In other words: you are getting what Dressel decides. We requested an upgrade, and because we are member of the Iberostar and IGH club, we got it. Everyone else got pool view. When the trip leader found out, he was furious. He showed them the email that showed what Dressel said they would give him. The response was that the rooms were no longer available and that Dressel could not promise something like that as they are not entitled to do that. So be careful if you book through Dressel. You may or may not get what you asked for.

Now, if you book with Iberostar directly, you get what you ask for. Each other time we have stayed there, we got what we asked for. They are very accommodating and want you to have the best possible stay. I would book the dive trips with Dressel separately. I won't dive with them because I already dive with another dive operation. It's a personal choice for us.

Best to contact them via email and get in writing vs internet hearsay.

That being said from my understanding you cancel you get a voucher for future dive, if they cancel or weather you get refund.

I usually go through apple vacation or similar to get package minus diving. I use a good dive op (6-8 passenger) and wade out to boat from shore. They charge a huge pier use fee that I am not willing to pay.

What am I missing? You just said everyone got the type of rooms the trip leader were told they would get. What's the complaint? That you were allowed to upgrade because of your special status?
